He should either do his part to :eep up expenses and make the home appy, or leave. Snce you earn the aoney anyway you would be happier 9 live alone with your children. ( GERMANS ARE WELL FED, SAYS SOLDIER

"These Huns have not had enough of Hell yet when you compare Germany with weary and ruined France," says Lieut. Ray Keck in a letter to the Palladium. "All this talk about the German people starving to death Is rot, too. I am continually surprised at the amount o'f food and clothing they have on hand. In Mayen, day before yesterday, I saw over stocked markets, and I dare say the German people had as much to eat as you people back home. "What-is hardest for the Germans to admit is that Americans are human. But one think, thank God, they have to admit is that we are good fighters. Of course they ought to know better than any one else. The woman who runs the hotel here says that the returning German soldiers said the Americans would kill and destroy everything as they came through. They drew personal evasions too closely. ' "Nothing but fog and damp days are to be had here." "We pulled into this town at 9 bells this morning, and got our men billeted and our trucks packed. We officers have rooms in the hotel. I say hotel because it says hotel. Back in Richmond we would call it the wood shed. At any rate it is the best to be had. It is only a small town with young mountains on three sides, and a swamp on the other. France was bad enough, but nothing compared to this country. "The old A 2d ended almost nine months in tho front lines, in front of Sedan. Wo were relieved the night of Nov. 9. and started on our way to Coblentz the 14th of November. We rnme out of France into Belgium at Virton. All across Belgium we could see (he path of tho dirty Huns made lo 1914, and listened to some of the stories the people had to tell. We camo out of Belgium at Arlon. Luxcmnerg. Here we found everything different. We stopped at a little town close by the city, and everyone nearly bad a visit to the town. It was the best city we had seen outside of Paris. Just now we are about 60 killometers from Coblentz. I understand that we are duo to complete the trip in 17 days. That gives us three more which will he easy. And we will all be a happy hunch when we reach the Rhine. You have heard the song. 'When We Wind up our Watch on the Rhine . I have a watch I am saving for that very thing. Athletic Stunts Shows ' Edison's Youth on His 72nd Birthday (By Associated Press) . NEW YORK, Feb. 11. Thomas A. Edison stretched an arm out in front of him at right angles with his body today and kicked with each foot in turn until his toes touched his finger tips. "Now I dare any one to say I am getting old," said the inventor, who will be 72 years old tomorrow, to men who had assembled here from all arts of the country to congratulate aim. Mr. Edison said he never was In better physical condition. Tomorrow he leaves for Florida for a six weeks' rest from bis war activities on behalf of the government ,

cream. We sat on one side and he en the other. Was that correct? ANXIOUS. It is better not to sit between 'a couple who are Interested in each other. You might have suggested that he go in second, thus sitting between you. . Any arrangement was all right in the drug store. Dear Mrs. Thompson: We are two girls seventeen years old. We have a girl friend who is a little older than we are and she is always bossing us around. What can we do to make her stop doing this without hurting her feelings? TINA AND MATILDA. Never do what she tells you to do, if you do not want to. If she is so overbearing tell her that she is overstepping her bounds when she tries to run your affairs. Try not to hurt her feelings, but always maintain your independence even If she does not like it. She will respect you more in the end. Dear Mrs. Thompson: After visiting and returning home would it be all right to write to the boy first or wait for him to write. One boy insisted upon my writing to him. Should I do so? ' PUK. It is customary for the boy to write first. But since you have been requested to write, it would be all right to do so.
