He was a man of sterling worth, firm in his convictions of right and honor, and when the call for men to their country's service came he enlisted with the 36th Ind. Reg. Co. F Sept. 16. 1861. and bravely served his country until he was mustered out Sept. 24. 1864. He ' then returned to his Indiana home. Ho was united In marriage with Lydla E. Pike In 1867. daughter of Stephen and Elisabeth Pike. To their union was born five children. Llssle and Elsworth having preceded him home, three remaining are Elmer, of Chlcaro: Carrie, wife of Forest Monger; Eva. wlfo of Edward Evans; three i grondchlldren. Albert. Mnrtha and Mary Reha. children of Eva Evans. They with the beloved wife, two brothers. Lee. of Richmond; Perry of Williamsburg: two sisters. Hannah, wife of Henrv Farmer. Williamsburg: Martha, wife of Mahlon Farmer, of Economy, to mourn. They lived on the farm where their children were born and reared to man and womanhood, until a few years past. On account of falling health they moved to Richmond to be near their daughters. whor thev continued to live until Monday, the 27th of Jan.. 1919. he departed this life for his long home at the age of seventy-eight years, five months and four days. He was a loving husband, devote father and neighbor. To say he will be missed but feebly expresses the sentiments , of all who knew him. - Let us emulate his virtues and .meet him where parting is no more, 'father's gone.Oh. how we'll miss him, When his face we see no more: Till in heaven we go to meet him.
