A FRENCH ship struck a derelict mine in Messina Strait, between the Italian mainland and Sicily. How many times in the next few years will we read of similar occurrences in the newspapers? It depends on how many mines will be overlooked in the sweeping up of those deadly scorpions by the navies' which placed them there. After the signing of the armistice steps were taken to see that all navigable areas were swept clean of mines. It required vigilance and careful probing of the depths. But for want of carefulness in the laying of the mine one ship has already gone down. The chains or cables which were designed to hold it in position were perhaps not carefully secured, or perhaps were not strong enough. And so this mine floated away from its moorings and became a derelict, eventually being swept into one of the trade lanes traversed by ocean liners, and thus brought a great vessel to its doom. There may be more such occurrences. It is reasonable to suppose that more than one mine tore loose from its fastenings and is floating hither and thither in the seas. There are such mines, metaphorically speaking, in the business seas. You can steer clear of them by judicious advertising. Palladium classified ads are the best and safest to guide your business through mine-infested seas to the shorts of success and prosperity.
