NAVY NEEDS 200,000 MEN FOR NEXT YEAR
Meets Problem in Replacing Seamen Returning to Civilian Life. (By Associated Press) ., WASHINGTON. Dec. 18. Two hundred thousand men must be recruited for tha navy next year to take the places of men enlisted for the war who will be demobilized. Captain H. Captain Laning announced that 10 percent of the men of the regular navy force will be discharged at once, and that by July 1 next 150,000 men will have been released. None will be discharged from . the radio and hospital corps, which must be maintained at their present strength. In reply to a question as to the probable date of discharge of physicians in the navy who enlisted for .the war. Captain Laning said none ! could be released at present nor in the (near future. . After July 1 next 350,000 men will
be needed In the regular naval force to man the vessels, Captain Laning told the committee. The regular navy at present has 215,000 men, and 165,000 of these enlisted since the war be-
,gan,' 120,000 for four years and 45,000 for the duration of the war. More than 60 percent of the war recruits have asked to be discharged, Captain Laning said. In addition, it -was explained, as soon as peace terms are signed, the naval reserve force, numbering 290,000 men, must be placed on Inactive duty.
High School Civic Classes Form House of Representatives The high school civic classes under the direction of Shannon Neff, have been organized into two models of the house of representatives in Congress. Richard Taylor and Earl Keisker are speakers for the two "houses," and Lorado Gibson is one of the clerks. Committees have been formed and bills will be voted on in the next few weeks. Great interest is being shown in the work by the students.

Principally because we have concentrated for years on footwear, and there is amazing virtue in concentration. Furthermore, we confine our merchandising activities to footwear exclusively the logical outcome being an unassailable reputation for absolute dependability in everything connected with footwear. Although the range and variety of our showing seem endless, it will be prudent in the face of the immense demand for practical gifts to lose no time in making selection if it is to be done without inconvenience. We append, for guidance, a few suggestions:
