mocracy. Colored soldiers were there too (some from Richmond). All fought for the same cause to make the world a better place to live. We have been informed indirectly that some of the colored soldiers from Richmond have made the supreme sacrifice. The boy who will return, may feel proud of the part he played in this great struggle, but his pride is doomed for a short life if be enters a certain local theater. For some unknown cause, its manager has decreed that all colored people shall be escorted to the extreme upper sections of the balcony, and not be permitted to sit any other place in the house. Those who are familiar with the balcony of this play house, know the section of which I speak. It is true for some cause, every theater and moving picture house in
the city discriminate, more or less, against colored people, and it is also true that most theaters exclude colored people from the first floor sections, but in nearly all theaters, if colored people are permitted to enter, they are permitted to sit where they may in the balcony. But the gentleman now sees fit to extend this unfair practice to his balcony, an entirely new feature for this play house. I voice the sentiments of my people when I protest against this unfair discrimination. If we are permitted to pay the same admission fee as others, we demand the same for our money that others receive. This is not a question of social equality. There Is no organized effort being made among colored people in Richmond on any other place, to bring about social equality. And as far as is known, there is no organized effort being made among the white people of Richmond to bring about the regragation of colored people. I am sure our local newspapers would speak fearlessly of any features that would tend to make colored people undesirable citizens. The theater-going colored people, as a rule, are well dressed and orderly. The exceptions to this rule are not in sufficient numbers to cast a bad reflection on the whole race. The United States soldier fought to make the theater business safe as well as other business, and there are a great many loyal, appreciative white people who resent such petty methods as this against loyal colored people. It Is to be regreted that an AmeriWant EeapBI6 Profit

The Y. M. C. A. cabinet proposes sending three gospel teams of four men each to New London, Westfield, Economy, Carthage and Noblesville during the Christmas vacation. The influenza epidemic may prevent the campaign. Church problems are studied by the Rural Church Volunteers every Sunday evening. It is further to be regreted that when the colored soldier returns home he will find Richmond not as good a place to live in as heretofore.
