FORM PLANS TO CREATE DEMAND FOR U. GOODS American Business Men Hope to Carry "Made-in-Ameri-ca" Goods to Every Nation fn World.
WASHINGTON'.' Dec. 5 American manufacturers are rapidly forming export associations which plan to carry the products of the Undted States to every nation on earth, to create and enlarge demands for goods "Made in America," and to furnish cargoes for transport over the seven Beas. The trade invasion of other countries will hepin In earnest when Europe has been supplied with food and reconstruction materials and the world gets back to a normal peace basis. To avoid collision with provisions of the Sherman anti-trust act and the Clayton law, the new associations are filing statements of their purposes with the Federal Trade Commission, taking advantage of the Webb bill permitting such combinations solely for the purpose of export trade. This act enables Americans to combine their strength to compete successfully with similar combinations In other countries. Up to the present, 52 statements have been filed, embracing combinations of machinery and tool makers, paper makers, lumber manufacturers and general exporters. As a general rule, tbe combinations have been effected along the line of trade associations that is, all manufacturers In the producing a certain article or series of articles are banding together, somewhat along the lines followed by the Germans in pushing goods to all corners of the earth before the war. Some experts believe that this system is wrong and that tbe combinations should be effected along the department store idea that is, that each combination should include one or two manufacturers of each article and tbat the association should be able to furnish everything from a pin to a locomotive. They argue this system would save much expense in maintaining salesmen and branch agencies and that just as strong organizations can be effected as under the other plan. Advocates of the one-Hne-of-business idea contend, however, that their system, which sends out highly specialized salesmen to ' sell one article only and which allocates all orders among the manufacturers embraced in tbe association, makes the stronger combination to meet foreign competition only.

137,500 Acres of Wheat Recovered by Allies (By Associated Press) NEW YORK. Dec. 5. More than 137,500 acres of wheat were recovered from German occupied territory in France by the British and French armies in the great offensive which ended the war, says the New York Federal Food Board. This Is believed by the food officials to have materially contributed to the food crisis which helped to bring Germany to her knees. This wheat was harvested chiefly by the French. The work of nearly 17,000 men was required in the harvesting. The binding machines and threshing machines were supplied by the French office of Agricultural Reconstruction and when the harvesting was completed the machines were sold at reduced prices to farmers or groups of farmers who had been victims of the war.

lieu . truss rvuuiris, iuc vauiccn Services, the Women's Motor Corps. ; and the Home Service Sections must j not give up now simply because the j
armistice is signed. Such an action is proof of a very poor kind of patriotism. What sort of a worker is it that will help only when the "lime light" was thrown 6n them. Those workers who helped for sensational reasons, who were Impressed by the fact that they were "doing war work" are the ones that you will find are letting down now; and are not doing their share which they did with such gusto before. Are these workers true patriots? . The women of America must be aroused to the fact that while fighting has ceased there is still a great need for the work of the Red Cross. Knit! .The knitting of socks and sweaters mu3t be carried on in a big way regardlesB of the cessation of hostilities. TJlis is the message of the Division Bureau of Production to the women of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. It is an absolute, fact that there is an urgent need for the production of sock and sweater assignments. And now that the pressure has been relieved on the making of surgical dressings women should be able to doubly arouse themselves ; to the knitting task before them. " Do you want our boys to go cold simply because they are not fighting? You are not that kind of an aunt, a mother, a sweetheart, a sister, a wife, are you? And yet the women of America have "let down." The message of the division director of the Canteen and Motor Corps is: "Canteen and Motor Corps, be prepared! Let us show the returning wounded the gratitude we bear them, and the admiration in which we hold them. Let them feel that somebody cares!" "October 6, 1917, is a historic date in the annals of this nation, and of the great world war, for it marks, the beginning of the altogether wisest and most beneficient provision for the dependents of soldiers and sailors ' in the time of war, ever made by a nation in the history of the world The Civilian Relief Department of the American Red Cross." This statement was made public through the office of ex-Secretary McAdoo on October 6, this year.
