NATIONAL "DRY" DILL IS SIGNED DY RESIDENT Sale of Intoxicants Prohibited After June 30, 1919, Until Complete Demobilization. WASHINGTON, Nov. 22. President Wilson, at one minute to S o'clock Thursday afternoon, signed the bone-dry prohibition measure, and thus made it a law. - . The president's action means that the sale of all intoxicants shall be prohibited after June' 30, 1919, and
continue In force until the last of tna American troops have been demobilised. The bill to which the president affixed his signature is officially known as the "food stimulation bill." Prohibition leaders say the law insures permanent prohibition for tho nation because the process of demob ilization may take two years "and by that time prohibition amendment will be ratified." Sales to Cease July 1. The bone-dry rider, known as the Shepyard amendment, provides that the manufacture of beer and wine shall cease May 1 of next year and the sale of all kinds of Intoxicants shall stop after June 30. Importation of wine from other countries is to be prohibited after May 1. The bill originally contained a provision which would have forbidden tho importation of wine immediately upon the a'pproval of the act. The countries of Europe interested In the manufacture of wines protested through their embassies and legations here, however, and this resulted in a modification which permits them to ; ship their wines into this country until May 1. MACEDONIANS WANT BULGARIA CRUSHED BALONIKI. Nov. 22 (Correspondence of The Associated Press) Greek3 and Serbians in Eastern Macedonia, who suffered pillage, persecution, deportation and murder at the bands of Bulbars before the armies of the former King Ferdinand quit the country under the terms of an armistice, are exhibiting dissatisfaction over what they term the indulgence of the Entente Powers toward Bulgaria. With fully 42,000 of their number deported, half of whom, it is believed, died under the hardships imposed upon them, the Macedonian natives are demanding, according to a Reuter correspondent, who toured the liber-! ated territory, that the Bulgarians be crushed by traditional Balkan methods. During the period of occupation , the Bulgarians proved themselves ."brutes and past masters in acts of spoliation and violence." said the cor-1 respondent, and when appeals for relief were, made to the German author- j ities no attention was paid to them. I , Entering Macedonia as friends under an understanding with former King Constantino of Greece, the Bulgarians established a reign of terror which has been characterized as a disgrace to civilization. They imposed upon thn noDulation a rationing system, which resulted in the starvation' of many following with assessments of taxes and Beizure of provisions to an extent that impoverished the country. Then followed wholesale executions and crimes ngalnst men, women and girls of the most revolting character, the survivors declared. At Seres only 5,000 persons remain of 25,000 living In the city when the Greeks turned it over to the Bu!gars. The population WEAKNESS REMAINS .
