"BIO MONEY AND LIGHT WORK" . The advertisement I that arrested Edith's attention was this: - "The Excelsior Motion Picture Corporation is prepared to pay, generously for exceptional types. Its present need is for children of charm and intelligence. Experience not absolutely necessary if faces have proper qualities and screen well. Call all day Tuesday. Bis money; light work." In Edith's desperate need of money the suggestion in the advertisement took possession of her. She didn't understand exactly what to "screen well" meant.xbut it was not mere maternal prejudice that made hrr feel her own children must surely have the necessary quality, including the specified "charm and Intelligence." She went to the door and looked out to where Virginia and small - Jack wem "playing . store where . clay cakes, sand pies and various other commodities made of backyard- sorl were' being briskly traded in. So frantic was Edith to get hold of enough fn. nav rrff her brother's debt to the Fenns that for a moment the- idea f of capitalizing her children's personality seemed the solution of her problem. " She wondered how much the "big money" mtght mean. She knew nothing of the business end of motion pictures, but had heard that stars like Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford earned hundreds of thousands a year. She had read that pretty babies and darling dumplings of kiddies who seemed to do nothing beyond looking like little angels received immense salaries and supported whole families of grown-ups by "going on the screen." She supposed they needed training for the work, but she had seen many picture plays wherein children delighted the audience without exhibiting remarkable talent doing nothing, in fact, that her own youngsters couldn't do "a thousand times better." Or so it seemed to a fond, proud mother. '. But even as Edith was thinking of these things, a hot wave of consciousness awept over her of what she was about to do. " " "It would be a horrid, vulgar thing!" she told herself in sudden revulsion. "Bartering my babies' sweetness for money! Making their pretty ways a mere bit of artifice a mockery of natural sweetness. I mustn't .think of WEAKNESS REMAINS LONG AFTER Influenza Reports Show That Strength, Energy and Ambition Return Very Slowly to Grippe Patients. After an attack of influenza, doctors advise that natura bo assisted in its building-up process by the .use of a good tonic one that will not only put "strength ' and endur-' ance Jnto the body, .but will also help to build up and strengthen the run-down cells of the brain. One of the most highly recommended remedies to put energy into both body and brain Is Bio-feren your physician knows the formula it is printed below. There's iron in Bio-feren tho kind of iron that makes red blood corpuscles and creates vigor. There is lecithin also; probably the best brain Invigorator known to science. Then there Is good old reliable gentian, that brings back your lagging apnetlte. There are other ingredients that help to promote good health, as you can see by reading this formula, not forgetting kolo, that great agent that puts the power of endurance into weak people. Taken altogether Bio-feren is a splendid active tonic that will greatly help any weak, run-down person to regain normal strength, energy, ambition and endurance. Bio-feren is sold by all reliable druggists and is inexpensive. For weakness after influenza patients .are advised to Jake.j two tablets. . " after each -meal "and one at bed time seven a day, until vhealth.' strength and vigor are fully restored. It will not fail to help you and if for any reason you are dissatisfied with results your druggist is authorized to return your money upon request without any red tape of any kind. Note to physicians: There Is no secret about the formula of Bioferen, It is printed on every package. Here it is: Lecithin: Calcium Olycero-phosphate: Iron Peptonate, Manganese Peptonate; Ext. Nux. Vomica: Powdered Gentian; Phenolphthaleln; Olearsln Capsicum. Kolo.

such a thing! : I'll put it out of my fcead." -i.-vj. - - But Edith couldn't put it out of her head. It buzzed around persistently, evoking all sorts of tempting sophistries. ' . : , .' '- ' "It won't hurt to try it." whispered a voice in her mind. "It will even be fun for the kiddies. It can't hurt them if you're there to watch and help." - '"- "But but what would John ? say? Would I dare tell him of the plan? Ah that's the test! I wouldn't want him to know I had hired out the children for. money to pay my brother's debts." "But it is for the children's own good," tempted the inner voice. There could be no easier wmy of earning the money. And once the invention is successful, you can give the kiddies advantages they couldn't otherwise have. Try it. try it, at least!" The postman's whistle interrupted Edith's reflections. The envelopes he handed her contained fresh bills in
curred by Ned bills for only trifling amounts to be sure, but making a hideous debt in the aggregate for people whoso income was constantly strained to the breaking point Edith's reasoning was worn thin with the never ceasing problem ot making ends meet. In the gust of resolve, she swept the wretched bills into her desk and got out the children's prettiest clothes. Then she called them in from play and sent them into cavortlngs of joy by the announcement that they were going with mother on the trolley to the big plant of the Excelsior Motion Picture Corporation in a hamlet a short distance from Arcadia. (To be continued.) PLAN CHATAUQUA. WINCHESTER, Nov. 18. A representative of the Coit-Alber Chautauqua. Bureau has been in the city in the interest of a Chautauqua for the, coming summer. MORE INFLUENZA GASES REPORTED
- - yf.-. .. Influenza has become more serious in Richmond and in Wayne county since the peace celebration on Monday,' according to the number of cases reported to Dr. J. M. Bulla, county health officer. Although Dr. Bulla is confined to his bed as a result of an accident several weeks ago he is attending to his duties a3 well as possible. . v.-. . - .- He said Monday that on Saturday, sixty cases were reported to him at his office and a number were reported on Sunday. The, increase reported since last Monday is probably due to weakened resistance caused by loss of sleep, and the assembling of large crowds. As yet no .word has been received in this county about the placing of another ban. City Health Officer Davis said that it would not be placed unless the situation demanded It. Many calls have been received at Reid Memorial hospital for nurses for influenza, but only a few were filled. Automobile Thefts Are N nmerous Over Country Automobile thefts seem to be increasing over the country, according to Crlef of Police Gorman. Every morning from 1 to 20 cards are received at police headquarters reporting the theft of automobiles. A big per cent of the stolen cars are 'from Detroit. Frequently the thief Is never located. When he is found, it is usually learned that the cars were stolen for joy riding. Eight cards, reporting the theft of automobiles, were received by Chief Gorman Monday morning. A car was stolen in Richmond Monday night from a resident in New Pasri. The thief has not yet been found. An officer of the Japanese navy,' after having discovered a process which makes paper waterproof,; hasiinvented a collapsible lifeboat made of the material whieT ean be folded up and weighs but a few pounds.
