Germany in Revolt The German people are trying to form a new government on lines that square with some of the principles of democracy. Press dispatches indicate that the Socialists are shaping the new government and will be responsible for the developments of the next weeks. It is too early to judge whether they will benefit by the mistakes of the Bolsheviki in Russia, or whether arson and bloodshed will accompany the transformation. Internal conditions in Germany are reflected in the appeal of Foreign Secretary Solf for food to feed the masses who are threatened with famine.
The suprme peace council at Versailles had accurate information about conditions in Germany, and seemingly took steps to assist the German people in obtaining a form of government that would help them during the trying months of reconstruction. President Wilson also indicated in his address before Congress that he had information regarding these conditions and that the allied powers would take steps to prevent if possible, the .repitition of murders, arson, and riots that characterized the overthrow of the Russian autocracy, and is bound to occur in Germany if internal conditions are not stabilized at the outset. It is idle to speculate on the extent of the German revolution. Resentment against the junkers and war lords may lead to frightful excesses. It is to be deplored that the revolt did not take place shortly after the war began, so that the frightful atrocities visited upon the helpless Belgian and French civilians would have been prevented. The masses then condoned the actions of the war lords and gloried in the perpetrations of evil. The glee that accompanied the havoc wrought by the Germans in the invaded territories may incite the revolutionists to seek vengeance on the war lords and the governmental officials. The very spirit of destruction that marked Germany's war tactics may now be put into action in Germany itself, and the Germans become agents of destruction in their own land. They have had training enough in foreign lands. We need not be surprised if they lay waste their own land and maltreat and crucify their own fellow countrymen.
If Germany Had Won What Germany once thought of demanding of
the allies was published June 30, 1918, in the Nachrichten of Goerlitz by Count Roon, a member of the Prussian house of lords. According to this German peace program, which came through a Havas dispatch from Basel, Switzerland, at that time the following conditions were included: Annexation of Belgium, with administrative autonomy in the interior. Independence of Flanders. Annexation of the entire Flanders coast, including Calais. Annexation of the Briey and Longwy basins and the Toul, Belfort and Verdun regions eastward. Restitution to Germany of all her colonies, including Kiao-Chau. Great Britain to cede to Germany such naval bases and coaling stations as Germany designates Great Britain must return Gibraltar to Spain, cede its war fleet to Germany, restore Egypt to Turkey, and the Suez canal to Turkey. Greece must be re-established under King Constantine, with frontiers as before the war, Austria and Bulgaria will divide Serbia and Montenegro. Great Britain, France and the United States must pay all of Germany's war costs, the indemnity being a minimum of $45,000,000,000. They also must agree to deliver raw materials immediately. France and Belgium are to remain occupied at their expense until the conditions are carried out. Count Boon, the dispatch stated, said Germany was entitled to these terms because of its
strength, and that until they were realized there
should be no armistice and no cessation of sub
marine warfare. Look at the map on Page One to see what Germany LOST.

Patriotic Shopping From the Chicago Tribune. THERE are six simple suggestions for Christmas shopping made by the State Council of Defense,
the adoption of which will relieve the Christmas period of Its customary hardships. Distribute your Christmas shopping over November end December. Shop as much as possible in the early hours of the dayPurchase useful things. Toys may be had as usual. Out-of-town gifts should be sent before December 5. Avoid sending bulky articles; they clog the mails and express. Carry your parcels whenever possible. If each shopper will observe these suggestions the prime objects of the Government will be attained the release of man power and unhampered transportation facilities. Stores have pledged themselves to limit their deliveries and their sales forces. They should receive all possible aid from the people. Local buying need not be restricted, but it should be done in a way most convenient to the shopper and the shop.

On Monday, October 21, we dressed an advertisement to wholesale and retail drug trade.
vising that we were badly oversold, due to the Influenza epidemic, stating that all deals and quantity shipments were postponed, and requesting that VapoRub be purchased in small lots only. This condition still prevails. At this writing we have back orders for eighteen thousand (18,000) gross and our orders each day are double our daily output. The epidemic, however, is decreasing In most sections, the demand is slackening and we are working night and day to catch ,up. In the meantime, we ask the trade to be patient with us. ENORMOUS SHIPMENTS HAVE WIPED OUT EXCESS STOCKS On October 1st we had on hand at the factory and in twenty warehouses over the country a tremendous stock of VapoRub, accumulated during the summer months. This is now gone we actually shipped during the month of October over three million jars of VapoRub. We are speeding up our factory as much as possible and the problem now is to distribute the factory's output as quickly as possible. We have, therefore, for the time being, abandoned freight shipments and are shipping either by Parcel Post or express trying to give each jobber at least a little stock. IMMEDIATE SHIPMENTS TO DRUGGISTS IN INFLUENZA DISTRICTS Preference Is being given to those sections stricken by influenza. In order to reach these sections as quickly as can be, we are, during this emergency, making shipments by Parcel Post, direct, to the retail trade, of not more than three (3) dozen 30c size in any one shipment. We prefer that the jobbers order these shipments for their trade, but to save time we will, if the need is urgent, ship direct on receipt of check or money order. Naturally, no new accounts can be opened during this rush. SAMPLES AND INFLUENZA BOOKLETS FREE ON REQUEST We have prepared a little folder giving all the information available so far on Spanish influenza its origin the symptoms and the treatment, and
on request. We will also be glad to mail to any individual one of these booklets, together with a quarterounce sample, free. HOW TO USE VAPORUB IN TREATING SPANISH INFLUENZA In every case call a physician VapoRub should be used only in connection with the physician's internal treatment. Apply hot, wet cloths over the throat, chest and back between the shoulder blades to open the pores. Dry lightly and rub VapoRub well in until the skin is red spread on thickly and cover with hot flannel cloths. Leave the bed-covering loose around the neck, as the body heat releases the ingredients In the form of vapors. These vapors, inhaled with each breath, stimulate the lining of the' air passages to throw off the influenza germs. In case ot head or chest cold, which often accompanies influenza, the vapors tend to keep the air passages open, loosen the phlegm and make the breathing easier. In addition, VapoRub is absorbed through and stimulates the skin, attracting the blood to the surface, and thus aids tn relieving the congestion within, t HOW TO USE VICK'S VAPORUB AS A PREVENTATIVE It is questionable if there Is anything which will prevent Spanish influenza, except avoiding those persons who are spreading the disease by coughing, sneezing and spitting, and by keeping up the bodily resistance by plenty of good food and exercise in the open air. The Public Health Service recommends that the nasal passages be coated with a weak solution of Menthol in liquid petroleum as a protective. For this purpose VapoRub is excellent. Just put a small portion up each nostril from time to time during the day and snuff well back Into the head. KEEP FREE FROM COLDS BY INHALING VAPORUB Colds irritate the lining of the air passages and thus render them a much better breeding place for the germs. At the first signs of a cold use VapoRub at once. Melt a little in a spoon and inhale the vapors arising, or VapoRub can be used in a regular benzoin steam kettle, such as most druggists carry In stock. If this is not available, a very good substitute to use is an ordinary tea-kettle. I Fill half full of boiling water put in half a teaspoon of VapoRub from time to time keep the kettle just slowly boiling and Inhale the steam arising.
