When the President asked for our gold, we gave freely to the cause. We did not ask for a PEACE WITHOUT VICTORY. When the President asked for men, Wayne County's man-power responded.

They were not "TOO PROUD TO FIGHT

When he sought Republican support in Congress, our Representatives gave it. But when he as a Leader of the Democratic party asks that Republicans surrender their right to Government representation, we must refuse, for we leam

The CINCINNATI ENQUIRER (DEMOCRATIC) SAYS "AMERICANS ON GUARD" "We believe that an honest difference of opinion, represented either by individuals or great political parties, is, has been and always will continue to be, the saving grace of this nation. "We are firmly convinced that when any grave question arises which involves patriotism, selfish partisan feeling will always be swept aside by the American

people, as it has been during the war, and a solid front presented to any and every enemy. . "President Wilson's plea for support of the candidates of his party as a pledge of support to himself is ill-timed and ill-advised, if, indeed, advice was asked or received. All America is supporting the administration regardless of politics. We believe that such support will still be accorded the President regardless of the outcome of the election. Whether they are Democrats or Republicans we believe in placing Americans, and Americans only, on guard. That is the test that should be applied to every man's candidacy." Oct. 27, 1 9 1 8.

Is it your intention, Mr. Business Man and Mr. Working Man, to have a Congress controlled by Southern Democrats shape the policies of our government pertaining to the critical questions with which the nation will be confronted following the

war.-1

A Republican Congress means a protective tariff and constructive legislation

to safeguard the interests of the nation to protect and stimulate the prosperity of its workers and its business interests; legislation shaped on a national basis for the benefit of all sections of the country.

A Democratic .Congress means "Free Trade," and a continuation of sectional legislation, shaped by Southern Democrats, which will discriminate against the North in favor of the South. This has been the policy of the Southern Democratic leaders throughout the period of the war, and it will be their policy during the Reconstruction period which will come with peace if they are permitted to remain in control of Congress.

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CHAMPION OF THE INTERESTS OF THE WORKING MAN AND THE BUSINESS MAN. SAFEGUARD YOUR INTERESTS, MR. VOTER, BY VOTING THE STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN TICKET TOMORROW, FOR A CRITICAL PERIOD IN THE COUNTRY'S HISTORY IS TO FOLLOW THE ADVENT OF PEACE. V

RICHARD N. ELLIOTT, Republican Candidate for Congress is an experienced, dependable man to have in congress. Rep. Elliott has been one of the most loyal supporters of our government's war policies. He has been "on the job" at Washington almost continuously since his election, working at all times for the welfare of the country and in the interests of the people of the Sixth District of Indiana, whom he has so ably represented. No man who ever represented this district in Congress has had more difficult, more exacting, more burdensome duties to perform than Rep. Elliott. He has fought "profiteering," but has supported safe and sound business interests. He has voted for labor legislation supported by the American Federation of Labor, and he has been a "WIN THE WAR" Congressman. Elliott is a trained legislator who can be trusted to vote intelligently on the vitally important reconstruction legislation which must be enacted after the war.
