CRIME IH STATE HUGH REDUCED OYWHDITION Reduction from 575 to 345 Arrests Shown in Report From Richmond. ; INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., Oct 29 Statlstlci from 43 cities formerly wet, show that crime has been reduced in the state during the first six months of prohibition. These statistics were taken from official ctty records. They show a reduction in arrests for all causes of 35.2 per cent; of arrests for drunks, 70.6 per cent. Richmond shows a reduction from 575 to 345 arrests, and a reduction from 314 to 77 arrests for drunkenness. Under license, arrests were not as frequently made In proportion to drunks, as under prohibition, because under license. In most places drunks were not arrested unless they became troublesome, or were past going, while under prohibition, as soon as a person becomes Intoxicated, he Is. at once arrested. As the superintendent of police la Terre Haute says. In explain lng the reasons for the arrest of drunks there now almost equal to those of last year: "During the proceeding administration here, the police department was In a demoralised state this was especially true during the last year of that administration and I suppose there should have been ten times as many arrests as there were. As to "drunks" under that administration, a man was not arrested unless he was in such a condition that he could not get home, or he had no friends to take care of him. With the state prohibition law in effect, we pay close attention to drunks, as oftimes, we are able to get evidence from them which will lead to the conviction of the person or persons who sold the liquor. "Terre Haute is less than fifty miles from a place In- Illinois or two places for that matter where liquor can be obtained, and liquor Is, of " course, brought Into this city both In and out of men's "hides." Many men get a drunk on in Illinois and get over here before they can get sober." Two hundred and fifty English girls of the Ad A. C.'s now under royal patronage and known as Queen Mary's army auxiliary corps, are doing clerical work with the American force In ' France.

This big excess stock bad been accumulated during the summer months. Then this epidemic of Spanish Influenza hit us and in the last 10 days this stock has vanished. At first we thought this tremendous demand would last only a few days, but the orders have run: Wed., Oct 16.... 18,504 Doi. Thur., Oct. 17..:. 25,323 Doz. Fri., Oct. ( 18.... 39,256 Doz. Sat, Oct. 19.... 45,833 Doz. Mon., Oct. 21 77.705 Doz. Up to Saturday, October 19th, we have actually shipped for this month $400,284.10, or over two million jars of VapoRub. THE PROBLEM NOW IS TO DISTRIBUTE VAPORUB QUICKLY Most of this tremendous quantity Is still en route to the jobbers, but freight and express are both congested nowadays, and it may be some time before this supply reaches the jobbers. In the meantime, therefore. It is necessary that we distribute, as widely as Jiosslble, the stock that we. are manuacturing daily, together with that now on the jobbers' and retailers' shelves, in order that it may get to the Influenza districts quickly. Our normal output Is about 4,000 dozen per day. We are putting on a night shift, but It will be a little while before that Is producing.
