The Spanish Influenza ' . Acting on instructions from the state board of health, Dr. J. M. Bulla, county health commissioner, has ordered all schools, churches, amusement houses and public meetings in Wayne county closed until the epidemic of Spanish influenza is under control. The order is general enough to include all places where persons congregate. Its purpose is to check at once the ravages of the disease. Citizens have taken kindly to the order, for they appreciate what is at stake. Dr. Hurty's instructions to Dr. Bulla, printed (yesterday on the first page of the Palladium, contain many suggestions that, if carried into i practice, will help the health authorities in
i quickly mastering the disease.
that coughing, sneezing and spitting are methods of spreading the disease. . If the individual citizen wants to assist Dr. Bulla in' his campaign, he must sneeze or cough into a handkerchief. Persons with colds should stay at home. Coughers are disease spreaders. Public spitters are public nuisances. Colds are dangerous. If you have

a cold, or feel languid and tired, stay at home. Don't expose your friends and associates to the disease. If Richmond wants to avoid a bad epidemic, a general observance of the orders promulgated by Dr. Bulla and the state authorities is in order. The disease has not taken a firm hold in Wayne county. Its spread can be prevented by caution and the exercise of care now. Don't wait until later.
Fear and Influenza From the Chicago Dally News. '
E XCELLENT
nection Dr. Robertson wisely emphasizes the importance of declining to worry. Giving counsel of good cheer, the commissioner reminds Chicagoans, that this is a healthful city, that measurably fewer deaths occurred in it during September of last year, and asserts that if the suggestions of the Health Department are followed the deaths of the present year are not likely to exceed those of normal years. He quotes Surgeon General Blue to the effect that when death occurs as the result of influenza it is usually because of tome complication and that ordinarily the sufferer from influenza recovers in three or four days provided he takes reasonable precautions. Dr. Robertson relies on the intelligence of Chicago people to follow precautionary-suggestions and not to become panic stricken over exaggerated reports. Unquestionably, fear plays a prominent part in the promotion of epidemics. This old yarn revived by a contributor to the Daily News is particularly timely: "Two dervishes coming from Joppa met the plague going thither. They asked it how many it intended to kill. The' reply was: 'Three hundred." On their return to Joppa they met the plague coming from that place and informed it that they had heard of the deaths of 3,300. 'Oh,' replied the plague, 'I killed only 300. The others died of fright."'

"GAVE ME GOOD APPETITE," HE SAYS OF TONIC F. L. Street, of This City Does Not Hesitate to Indorse Pepgen. One of the greatest pleasures In life is to sit down to a well cooked meal and be able to enjoy it. In this respect the rich man has no advantage over the poor man. True, he may have a greater variety of foods but if his digestion is not good, he cannot relish the foods his riches enable him to obtain. Many a poor man is richer with good digestion than the most bloated bond bolder, with nervous dyspepsia. F. L. Street, 630 North 10th St., Richmond, says: "Pepgen gave me a good appetite" and what Mr. Street says hundreds of persons with sorely afflicted stomachs, would like to say. If your stomach is upset and your food sours causing a bloated, uncomfortable feeling after meals. If you have no appetite and everything that is set before you looks and tastes the same. If you eat your meals in a mechanical sort of way. If you never get real, downright hungry it wouM be well for you to imitate Mr. Street's example and take Pepgen. Scores say it has given them good appetites, made them stronger and feel better in every way. MRS. JONES OF MUNCIE STATES, NERVES AIDED Woman Was So Nervous Could Not Sleep Soundly. "I would be ungrateful if I didn't speak a good word for Pepgen," says Mrs. Mary Jones, 216 Wyser street, Muncie, Ind. "Before I started to take Pepgen I had pains after every meal caused by my food fermenting and turning to gas. It was a heavy burning feeling. And then my heart would flutter until at times I thought it would jump out of my mouth. "My appetite was almost a stranger, consequenty, my vitality was simply wasting away. I felt tired and was very weak. I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep soundly. I dreaded to see nights come because I would have to roll and toss until long after midnight before I could go to sleep. "Pepgen relieved me. It seems almost unbelievable to me that I am now eating corn bread, raw onions, and cucumbers. I go to bed and go to sleep right away." "My son, Wiliam V. Jones, told me about Pepgen. That's how I came to try it because it had helped him."
AFTER STARTING
GOES TO WORK AFTER LAY OFF OF 4 WEEKS Glad To Say That Pepgen Put Him Back on His Feet. That Terre Haute people are being benefited by Pepgen as well people here and in other parts of Indiana is shown by a glance of what that city's residents say. Among those who have recently testified is Mrs. Carrie Summer, who tells how the great tonic helped her husband: "My husband had been sick for four weeks," says Mrs. Summer, 28 Oakland Avenue Terre Haute. He was troubled with his kidneys. He was compelled to be up and down the biggest part of the night. His back pained him so terribly that he was not able to go to work. "Then he started to taking Pepgen. He soon grew so much better that he was able to go back to his work as driver for the Model Ice Cream Co. . "While he Is not entirely well I am sure that It will only be a short time until he feels like himself again. "We are glad to recommend Pepgen and see honestly believe that it will help others who are troubled." Weak, nervous run-down men and women may learn more of Pepgen at Thistlethwaite's drug stores of from any first-class drug store In Richmond and nearby. towns. (Advertisement)
