1 2,004 New Cases Develop in Army Camps Pneumonia Cases Increase. WASHINGTON, Oct. 4.-r-Further spread of Spanish influenza over the country and in army camps, with an increasing death rate, vraa indicated today In reports received by the publice health service and at the office of the surgeon general of the army. New cases developing in army camps totalled 12,004 with reports lacking from Camps Sherman, O., Taylor, Ky., and Jackson, S. C, where the disease has reached epidemic proportions. ThiB total was a decrease over that of yesterday, but 930 new cases of pneumonia were reported as against 876 the day before and deaths were 331 compared with 271 yesterday.

monia cases total 8,575 and deaths, 2,479. Ten camps reported a greater increase in Influenza today than yesterday, the other reporting a decrease. Camp Grant, 111., reported the high- ' est, 900. The greatest increase in pneumonia was reported at Camp Grant, with 133 new cases and thirtyone deaths. Pneumonia cases at Camp Lee, Va., were eighty-five, with thirtyfive deaths, and at Camp Humphries, Va., fifty-three, with twenty deaths. Headquarters Opened. More than 100 physicians already have been sent to that city from districts where the disease is not at present a particular problem, and the service is getting together a mobile per
sonnel, which can be sent' to other
points, if necessary, when the epi
demic subsides In New England.
Physicians were ordered today to
report to a number' of cities which have not previously been Included in the operations of the service against influenza. These places included Wilmington, Del., where five doctors were sent; Chester, Pa., and Hopewell, Va. Physicians also have been sent to Bethlehem, Pa.. Wilmington, N. C, Bath, Me., and Florence, Ala. Many nurses also have been sent to various cities and others are being mobilized for duty. As a further step In the campaign to prevent an epidemic in Washington, which is crowded with war workers, the commissioners of the District of Columbia today ordered all theatres and motion picture houses closed after tonight until the disease is stamped out. Precautions Taken. Thus far only comparatively few cases have been reported here, but extraordinary precautions are being taken so as to keep influenza away from employes of government bure

number of outbreaks were reported in Indiana, Including 200 cases at Hammond with nine deaths; several hundred cases at Nobles ville; many cases with five deaths, at Lafayette; 100 cases at Newcastle and several hundred cases at Indianapolis. ; From Oswego, N. Y., came a report of 2,000 cases, while 161 cases were reported at Chillicothe, O. New Mexico and Arizona also reported a few cases, the first from those states. In Arizona there were sixty cases in a normal school at Flagstaff and 200 cases at Winslow. Forty cases were reported at Gallop, New Mexico.

Previous Service Men May Enlist in Navy The following instructions have been received at. the local navy recruiting office in regard to the re enlistment of previous service men: Any registrant who prior to mailing of the form ordering him to report for military duty and entrainment, shall present to his local board, the certificate of a recruiting officer or other proper authority of the Navy or Marine Corps, indicating that he '.has served in either of the respective branches, and that application was made for re-enlistment will then be furnished with certificate that will
permit reenlistment within ten days of the date thereof. In case, however, - the certificate shall show f that the registrant has been discharged within four months prior to the issuance of the certificate of the local board, then the certificate of the board shall state that applicant may reenlist at any time within four months from date of discharge. ; The new ruling will allow the men a wider radius of time within which to reenlist. Previously the provision was, that they were required to reenlist following the day of their discharge. - , All ex-navy men are invited to call at the local recruiting office and learn
