uer 10 ei oeuiemem. The City Council decided to "go after the Gas company" at its meeting Monday night. Ail the councilmen said something to that effect, thf mayor agreed, and then City Attorney Byram RobbSns, made a statement as to the condition of affairs in regard to the gas situation. Works, the accountants and Nlmrod Johnson, manager of the gas company. "We finally broke up without an agreement and ltunow seems practically impossible to get any agreement with the company without a hearing before a commission This has been apparent for ten days and is confirmed by conversations with Johnson. There seems no disposition to get a hearing before the commission "I do not think at this time that there should be any hair splitting about rates in consideration of the emergencies created by war conditions. The position of the city was a fair one but there seems to be no disposition on th part of the company to meet it. "I think it is the policy of the company to delay this matter until the people feel the need for the gas and cold weather Is here so that the city will be compelled to accept the higher rate when the pinch of winter comes on. "Mr. Johnson has Intimated that the company will not file a petition until October and I do not know whether they will do so even then." A committee composed of Oscar Williams, John Schneider and Joseph Walterman was appointed to meet with the company and the city officials this week. Ordinances Hauled Up. Councilman Harry Golden stated that North O street between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets had not been repaired for 30 years and the gutter had been cleaned once In eight years. Councilman Richardson brought up the dimmer ordinance and the mayor said the police department would watch it more corefully In the future. Also the spitting ordinance was hauled before the eyes of the councilmen. Councilman Von Peln said: "I am still talking about weeds," and he stated that he would have to cut some of the weeds himself if the city would not force the property owners to cut t&em. "The lights down in my ward don't light half the time," said Councilman Walterman, and he intimated that the councilmen's complaints were not being treated properly by the light plant. James Dillon, the manager of the light plant, smootherd things over and the mayor stated that he would see that the lights were fixed if he had to fix them himself. Walterman also reported on a bad sidewalk in his ward which he said he had been reporting for the last three years. The mayor promised to have it fixed.

Continued From Page One. and now the great struggle is at iast come. The struggle not for Liberty, but for the liberty of humanity human liberty. "The purpose of Germany is world dominion or overthrow and I say let it be overthrown. Germany has been preparin for this for 40 years. I was in Germany at the outbreak of the war. I saw part of that great mobilization. In less than one week, 5,000,000 men were sent to the front." Every automobile and every horse was
listed and the owner knew where he was to have either in 24 hours. It was curious that a peaceful industrial nation could be so transformed into an army camp. They had been 40 years doing that, and we have done almost as much in a year. "Germany thought she would get France .then England and then America. Her gift was to be the strangers gift as that of the Cyclops to Ulysses, when they said after he had asked them for the stranger's gift. 'We shall devour all your men and then after we have done that we shall devour you.' and. that was to be the stranger's gift to America, and England has saved us from that gift. The fleet of England has saved us from the world tumbling about our heads. The shackles would have been fetters upon us Just as heavily and firmly as they were upon Germany. "Let us see to it that the world is free. It must be so. Our boys got there just in time to turn the tide. We should have been there long ogo, but thank God we got the?e in time to save the world. "Our boys are there and we must back them. Let us subscribe now to the Liberty Loan and subscribe liberally. If we do not we will turn slackers. Let us pull strong and long and pull everything together." Support of Women Asked. Mrs. Charles Drultt. chairman of the Women's section of the Liberty Loan drive, preceded the speakers with a short talk in which she appealed particularly to the women. "The women are expected to do good work in this drive. We must go where there are small investors. We must go where there are 550 bonds bought and bonds bought by partial payments If we are not successful the first time we must go a second time. "In this loan the women know more about the bonds and are more able to understand about them, and to explain their Importance. "More and more is falling upon the women. This is a wonderful time for women. Always in previous wnrs the women have given their sons and made sacrifices in other ways but this is
MEN FEEL TIRED, TOO. While much is said about tired women it must be remembered that men also pay the penalty for overwork. When the kidneys are weak, inactive or sluggish, when one feels tired out and miserable, lacks energy and ambition. Foley Kidney Pills are tonic and strengthening. Wm. H. NOTHING that we could say would so thoroughly convince you of the value of Chamberlain's Tablets as a personal. trial. We can tell you of thousands who have been permanently cured of chronic constipation, indigestion, biliousness, sick headache and disorders of the stomach and liver, but this will have little weight with you as compared to a personal trial. That always convinces.
