A Liberty Loan Thought If you believe in your country, you'll invest in your country. If you believe America is fighting for a just cause, you'll provide the sinews of war. If you believe the world will not be safe until the Kaiser is licked, you'll buy the bullets, bombs and bayonets that will put him out of commission. If you believe Kultur is a blind for barbarism, you'll help exterminate it. The way to do it is to buy Liberty Loan bonds on September 25, 26 and 27.
The First Note a Discord The Kansas City Star says : The interview of the German crown prince, declaring that Germany has no greater idea of victory than to hold her own and save herself from being vanquished, may be regarded as the first effort in the German peace propaganda which, will be opened on an extensive scale as soon as the German army can find a foothold and check its retreat. The interview of the crown prince no doubt was given out for the purpose of preparing the German people for what is coming, for in Germany the idea of victory in this war has been something vastly beyond that of merely holding what Germany had when the war opened. "If Germany had wanted war we would not have chosen this moment. No moment could
have been more unfavorable for Germany," the crown prince declares. Yet the Germans know that Germany did choose the hour, and that it was the most favorable that could have been chosen, and that it was not chosen for. the purpose of "holding our own." No power was threatening what Germany then held. When Germany invaded Belgium it was not for the purpose of holding her own, but for the purpose of holding what she took by force. After the capture of Belgium the war party laughed at the idea of giving up what it had been forced to take. The German idea of victory then was to take all it could get and hold all it took. As a preparation of the way to break the bad news to the German people of the failure of the war party to do what it started the war to do the statement of the crown prince may serve its purpose. But as the first note in the overture of peace it gives no promise of world harmony.
War is Amerca's Ordeal by Fire From an address by Rabbi T. Mortimer Bloom, quoted in the American Israelite MY America, this war is your ordeal by fire, the crucible where your purposes shall be refined, your ideals tried, your worth tested. Out of this fiery furnace your soul shall be born anew. Your dross shall be purged out,-your imperfections burned away. You shall come out all gold, America. I have said that it was" a poor civilization at best that Germany so brutally assaulted in 1914. But it was an evolving civilzation, a civilization that was on its way somewhere. It shall continue on its way. We shall accelerate its evolution. We shall take that evolution in our own hands. We shall make it a self-conscious evolution. Before now it was blind and faltering, and slow and costly. But now we see the end more clearly, and the means for attaining that end, are at hand. Like a flash it has been revealed to us. "The hand of God has been laid upon the nations." Death, the great revealer has revealed to us the end and the means.' We shall take the social order in our own hands and remold it nearer the heart's desire. Death, the great revealer. "Our sons who have shown us God." Bird, song above the battle din! The dawn of hope! The glory of springtide! The promise of resurrection!

"If the Commercial club succeeds In bringing the proposed new Training Detachment Camp to Richmond it will mean that the city will receive over one-half million dollars from the government a ' year beside the money spent by the soldiers and visiting friends and relatives in the city,' 'it was stated by members of the board of directors of the Commercial club, Friday afternoon. It is planned to have 1,200 men In training at once. The proposed barracks house will be arranged in building No. 1 of the United Refrigerator company. "Serviceand "Conservation" are written in italics across the war-time record of Certain-teed Roofing. It has given vitally needed shelter for munition plant, barrack, shipyard, factory, barn and granary. It has taken nothing of military value in its manufacture, waste rags and asphalt are its principal components, and both are useless for war purposes. Its manufacture is accomplished largely by machinery, conserving labor; by water power, conserving fuel; by women workers, conserving manpower. Certain-teed endures under all
conditions. It is weatherproof, waterproof, spark proof and fire retarding. Rust cannot affect it The heat of the sun cannot melt it or cause it to run. It is not affected by gases, acids, fumes, smoke, etc. These qualities have made Certain-teed the choice everywhere for factories, warehouses,, store?, hotels, garages, office buildings, farm buildings and out-buildings. In shingles, red or green, it makes an artistic roof for residences. Certain-teed Roofing is guaranteed 5, 10 or 15 year, according to thickness. Sold by good dealers, everywhere

Ask Yourself the Question -Not 'Will a uniform fit me?" But "Can I measure up to the uniform?" For, out of the coming registration of thirteen million men, only one in every six or seven can win his way into the uniform of the United States Expeditionary Forces. - Frankly, the coming registration, to be held early in September, is a challenge not to your patriotism, loyalty or manhood, because America has implicit faith in the full registration of every man between the ages of 18 and 45. It is a challenge to your ability to convince the registration board that you should be accepted as a unit of the two and a quarter million men needed to again fill up the cantonments throughout the United States. Troops are being dispatched to Europe at a rate which will deplete these cantonments by October First. In order that the first installment of Class 1 men may be ready by October, you are being depended upon not only to register on the day set for this avowal of your Americanism, but to assist in acquainting every man within the ages called upon with the needs of America's fight for every nation's independence and security. It you speak any foreign language, go out among such men as cannot readily understand the printed call to loyal manhood. Jmpress upon them the nature of this registration and the faith America places in them to respond to the early mustering of our final contribution to the overthrow of German opression. . . This may be the only service you can render, but its importance cannot be overestimated, for without the full registration of the estimated thirteen million, the quota of two million Class 1 men will not be reached. ' Watch for Registration Day- Sept. 12th your chance to smash the Hun! This space contrbuted to Winning of the War by The Richmond Palladium
