1,000,000 MEN . IN GAMP UNTIL WAR IS FINISHED "Only Just Beginning," Secretary Baker Says Concerning War Preparations. KANSAS CITY, Mo.. Auk. 6. Passing through Kansas City Monday, en route to Leavenworth. Kan., Newton D. Baker, secretary of war, issued a statement In which he said it was
the purpose of the war department to keep at least 1,000,000 men training in camps in the United States as long as the war shall last He placed the number of men now training in the United States at 1.600, 000 With reference to his recommendations for extension of the draft age, Secretary Baker Bald it was not the intention of the war department to invade the deferred classifications, adding that with the extension of the draft age Class 1 will provide all the men necessary. Discussing the battle of the Marne Alsne sector, Mr. Baker warned against over optimism. "We are only beginning," he said. ENEMY GOT AWAY, SAYS LUDENDORFF AMSTERDAM, Aug. 6. "The enemy fit evaded us on July 15, and we thereupon, as early as the evening of the 16th, broke off operations. It is always our endeavor to stop an undertaking as soon as the stake is not worth the cost. I consider it one of my principles to spare the blood and strength of our soldiers." General Ludendorff, first quartermaster general of the German army, made this statement to an assemblage of German newspaper correspondents who were received by Field Marshal von Hlndenberg and himself, according to dispatches received here. Referring to General Foch, General Ludendorff continued: "His plan was undoubtedly to cut off the entire arc of our front Bouth of the Aisne by a break through on the flank. But with the proved leadership of ouh seventh and ninth armies that was quite impossible. "We reckoned with an attack on July 18, and were prepared for it. The enemy experienced very heavy losses, and the Americans and African auxiliary troops, which we do not underestimate, suffered severely. "By the afternoon of the nineteenth we already were fully masters of the situation and shall remain so. We left the abandoned ground to the enemy
according to our regular plan. "Gain of ground." and "Marne" are only catch words without importance for the issue of the war. We are now, as before, confident." Field Marshal von Hlndenberg also dilated on how economically the troops of Germany had been used. He said: "This circumstance and supply considerations decided our measures, and we transferred the fighting to favorable ground where the troops could easily be supplied. . "We all want peace, but it must be 9 peace with Lonor."
THESE SOLDIERS ARE TRAINING FOR WAR SERVICE BUT THEY WILL ATTACK BATTLEFIELDS WITH PLOWS

We can tell you of thousands who have been permanently cured of chronic constipation, indigestion, biliousness, sick headache and disorders of the stomach and liver, but this will have little weight with you as compared to a personal trial.
