Plans are under way for formation of a county council of defense in Preble county. Following a recent visit to the county by S. J. Mendenhall, state organizer, for Ohio, he selected Judge A. C. Risinger of the court of common pleas, to take charge of preliminary arrange ments. Judge Risinger expects to call a meetine of residents of the county at an early date to take action I 1 looking to organization of the local county council. WILL TRY PREBLE BOY EATON, O., July 29 Notice has been received by City Marshal Willard Armstrong to appear Tuesday at Ft. Thomas, Ky., as a witness in a court martial to be conducted there. The investigation involves Dewey Brookshire of Preble county, who Is alleged to have been absent from duty without leave for a period of about a month. Marshal Armstrong took Brookshire into custody here some time ago and returned him to FL Thomas. HAND GRENADE ON EXHIBIT EATON, O., July 29. Considerable attention is being attracted to a German hand grenade that is on exhibition here. The grenade was sent by Dean Stubbs, in the overseas service, to his father, L. G. Stubbs at West Elkton. It was picked up by Sergeant Stubbs in a trench of the Allies, where it had failed to explode. The explosive was removed and the grenade sent home by Sergeant Stubbs. In shapt it resembles a pear; is more thpn six inches in length and has a tail resembling ' the feathered tail of an arrow. The tail or wings, control the grenade so when thrown it strikes on a headpin in the forward end, which causes It to explode. ON WAY HOME OXFORD, O., July 29. Arthur Morse son of Mr. and Mrs. William Morse, living northeast of this village, recently wounded in action in France, has arrived in Hoboken, N. J., and will soon be home. The young man was in Iowa when called into service. He has been abroad four months. - - The boys are giving the Hons what we have been hoping and praying they would give them.
