1 MR. ELIZABETH THOMPSON
Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am a young girl twenty years old and I am in love with a young man one year my senior with whom I have been going for over a year. He Is a very nice young man, as he is neither loud nor rough. From his actions he thinks a great deal of me and he called to see me at least once a week and sometimes twice. About two weeks ago he began to act different toward me. So one evening I questioned him as to his troubles. He said that he was kind of angry at me. but that didn't amount to much. He asked me to write to him that week as he would be very glad to hear from me. I sent him a letter but he didn't answer it. Instead he came down the evening of the day he received my letter, but he didn't act nearly as friendly as he used to. What do you think is bothering him? What can I do and how can I act to gain his friendship, as I hat to give him up? BROKEN-HEARTED. Fear Is the greatest handicap you can have. If you are afraid you will lose a friendship you very likely will, because your friend will feel your lack of confidence. Do not try to please him. Let him try to please you and if he doesn't tel him so fearlessly. Even if you do lose him it is better than to

suffer constantly because he acts so queerly. Perhaps you have been seeing too much of each other. If so, do not let him come so often. Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am a girl twenty-two years old and I have been going with a fellow the same age for about a year. I came here to stay a week or two, but he did not come and I got homesick. When I am with him it seems I want to be away from him and when I am away he is on my mind all of the time. I Just grieve myself to death about him. Please tell me what to do to get him off my mind. I am on the go all the time, but still he is on it. I would like to forget him if I can while I am on my visit. Please tell me what to do. M. F. Your thoughts master you instead
of you them. It is not difficult to!
wipe away an impression that is troublesome if you give the mind something else to think about. Read, sew, work, d anything that interests you enough to command your attention. You are in love with an ideal and not the man or you would care for him when with him. If you have
any natural bent follow it in yonx i spare time. As you grow interested j
in some line of work or play you will find you think less and less of the boy.

"Chest crushed," answered the physician much as a merchanic would speak of a damaged engine, "and ribs stove in on this side. Can't tell yet whether there are internal injuries. We'll take him to our unit and find out." "Couldn't he lust as well go to mine where we both belong? The ambulance we drove over in is right here." "Too far," he said in a tone that settled it. "No time to waste." Sally turned giddy for an instant and reeled, compassion and anxiety beating through her shocked nerves. The doctor put out an efficient arm. "Here, child, you need a bit of stiffening yourself," and he handed her a capsule of something and the tin cup from which they had trickled water down Roger's throat. She swallowed It obediently, sitting on a timber that projected from a heap like a giant Jackstraw.
