"Home Service PlatUburgbs" ar In session. In a six weeks' courao Red Cross chapter delegates to th Home1 Service Institutes at Cleveland and . Cincinnati are receiving intensive in-. structlon in Red Cross Home service. At the Home Service Institutes -courses are (lren covering War Risk Insurance, re-education of wounded . soldiers and sailors, the care of civil; and business affaire of absent soldiers, health of soldiers' families and child . welfare. Conferences and discussions are arranged to answer questions that may arise on points regarding delayed allotments and communications. - September 1, at Indianapolis and Columbus, and October 1 in Cleveland will see new groups gathered from the chapters' committees. The Lake Di-'J vision Bureau of Civilian Relief has -arranged to have expert workers lecture at these meetings and is doing everything possible to provide trained workers for all chapters. Twenty-three pairs of socks were donated by the Willing Workers on Sat urday. The yarn was bought from the proceeds of the White Elephant sale held in May. Some of the socks were striped with yarn spun by hand by one of the knitters in 1865. The proceeds of an entertainment given by children under the age of 12, were given to the Red Cross. It amounted to 07.00. The children gave ' recitations, dances and songs. The ' affair was in charge of' Ruth Mullen

Americans, German or others In the United States wishing to communicate with relatives in Germany, must now write out their messages in Red Cross . chapters throughout the country. These are sent through the division officers of the organisation to national headquarters. Here tney are rewritten and -the -wording absolutely changed to prevent the sending of diagrams or secret codes. The messages are then given to the Censorship Board and are passed or refused by them as the case may be. hen they reach a neutral country they are translated on other paper and in most cases delivered by the Red Cross of the place to which they go. The plan is considered as spy-proof as it is possible to devise. Today the American Red Cross is sending an average of 1.300 letters a day to persons living behind the enemy lines. This work Is done through Washington
headquarters of the American Red Cross by the Bureau of Communication, of which Edward M. Day is acting director. Records compiled for Red Cross Home Service sections in the Lake Division show that to July 1. 248 Ohio. Indiana and Kentucky soldiers and sailors had lost their lives. Two hundren and five were seriously wounded and 12 taken prisoner in the same . period. By states these casualties are: Deaths Ohio, 135; Indiana, 68; Kentucky. 47; total 248. Seriously Wounded Ohio, 86; Indiana, 63; Kentucky, 56; total 205. Taken Prisoner Ohio, 4; Indiana,

Six hundred pounds of yarn has arrived at the local Red Cross rooms, and knitters can receive it at any time. Indian Princess Speaks at Eat on Chautauqua EATON, O., July 23. Princess Watahwaso, in Indian songs and legends, and the Antonio Sala company, were the attractions at the Chautauqua Tuesday, the Sala company appearing in the afternoon and again this evening. The Princess is on the evening program. James Elcho Fiddes, musical; Gay Zenola MacLarcn and Harry L. Fogle-' man are on the program for Wednesday, Fidea appearing afternoon and evening; MacLaren in the afternoon and Fogleman in the evening, in a lecture. The Oxford Chautauqua (Coit-Alber) opened a five days' session on the public school lot this afternoon. The program this " year is exceptionally attractive, and the . sale of season tickets has been unusually large, especially among the ' country people.
