BREAD PRICES TO BE GUT IN STATE
EVANSVILLE, Ind., July 18. Bread prices in Indiana will fall in the next few weeks, H. E. Barnard, state food administrator, told the convention of
the Indiana Retail Grocers' Association meeting here. The bakers of Indiana are making a greater profit than we believe they should have and the advisory committee of bakers will report on a downward revision of prices in the next few days," he announced. "During the winter the bakers made little or no money," he said. "Then, when the prices of wheat flour substitutes mounted it was only fair they should have a higher price. The prices of substitutes have fallen now, however." Dr. Barnard said he could give no figures on what the drop in price will be but indicated it probably will amount to 1 cent on the pound loaf to the consumer.
Wheat Rules to Hold. He predicted that there will be no change in the wheat flour regulations of the flfty-nrty regulations in the near future despite the bumper wheat crop, saying the national administration intends to store 200,000 bushels to safeguard against failure of the 1919 crop. He stated there will be no raise of the milk prices in Evansville, saying he had finally refused tbe request of local distributors who already nave had two Increases In the last eight months. George K. Johnson of Indianapolis, grocers' representative in the office of Dr. Barnard and John Green of Steubenville. O., former .secretary of the national association, spoke on food rulings. The convention will close tonight. The annual election of officers will be held in the afternoon and the next convention city will be selected. The Brazilian government has decreed that products offered for sale as butter must contain at least 80 per cent of butter fat and not nor than 15 percent of acid content
