GOVERNMENT INSPECTED SEED -WHEAT MUST BE ORDERED EARLY
Dear Mrs. Thompson I am a woman thirty-elgbt years old and I ami
marriea 10 a man nve years younger than myself. I used to be very beauti
ful and was considered the prettiest!
niono in town, but now I am wrinkled and old looking. My husband Is very pood to me, but I know he does not love me any longer and Is only making the best of his life with me. This makes me nearly crazy at times. We havj two children. I love them so much that I could not go away and leave my husband with them, and he loves them so much that he would not thin of leaving me. What would you do If you were In my place? I want to add that girls should think twice before they marry men younger than themselves and they should picture the future. It Isn't a pleasant thing for a woman to be too old to enjoy the youthful pleasures her husband yearns for and It isn't pleasant for a wife to be looked at as a curiosity by her husband's friends. THIRTY-EIGHT. You must stop feeling old. A woman of thirty-eight is still young if she only realizes It. Take particular pains In your dress. Study the clothes that well-dressed women of your age are wearing, and try to reproduce the effects In your own clothing. A skirt two or three Inches too long will add at least five years to a woman's appearance. You should also comb your hair so that It looks soft and fluffy.
Hair combed straight back or tightly Is not youthful except on very young girls. Pretend to enjoy what your husband would like to do. If you do you will probably find that you are rejuvenated and that you are having just as good a time as he is. ; Of course the most important thing is to change -your state of mind because much depends upon your attitude toward yourself. Dear Mrs. Thompson I am a girl fifteen years of age and have just finished my freshman year In high school. I have a question that has bothered me for some time. There is a bov a half year behind me in school. I love him more than any other boy. He Is what I call a decent and respectable boy. There is going to be a play that he Is in and I am also. It will not let out until late, and so would It be proper for me to ask him to walk home with me, or would It show ignorance? This is the first boy I have really loved and I do certainly love him. How can I find out whether he loves me? CONSTANT READER. You should not ask him to walk home with you. . If he wanted to he would without your asking, and surely you would not wont to put him In a position where he would have to do it or be rude. Have some member of your family call for you unless he ask3 permission before tie play to take you home.
Uncle Sam Is interested In the kind of seed wheat that the farmers of v.ayne county will sow this fall. Last week S. W. Taylor with the county agent covered all parts of Wayne county looking for fields of wheat suitable for seed. The inspector tried to list only the fields that showed high yields free from sticking smut, reasonably free form rye, cockle, chess and scab. Many fields In the county are badly infected with different diseases that are not noticeable from the road. These will be carried over to the next crop and will . be sure to reduce - the yield. The wheat listed as approved seed wheat can be secured from the farmers owning the wheat, at a, small margin above the market price. The owners of this wheat have agreed to ohly for a short time, giving any farmer opportunity to buy clean seed vheat. Since many of these farmers having approved Bed wheat, sell to ele
vators as the wheat is threshed, this office suggests that all fanners wishing to buy approved seed wheat leave the necessary number of sacks with the farmer and he will reserve any quantity of seed that you demand. Following is a list of the farmers whose wheat has been approved for seed.,., '.. FROM "MOTHER SALLY" Shack 3, September 3. Precious Sister A million thanks for that box of cigarettes and chocolates! If you could have seen my children's faces as I came through the ward, doling out my treasures! And when I explained that they were from my home In America, the flood of messages that came from those grateful lips! "Is It North America or South America you live. Little Mother?" shouted one dear lad, whose leg and arm have been saved from amputation by Dr. Will's new treatment I'll tell you more of it afterward. "Because I have ' a cousin in the South America." he went on; "in Florida you know him, , maybe? His name Is Auguste Auguste Chessard?" I exDlained that Florida was a south
ern state, but not "South America,"!
and that I hadn't met Auguste. He seemed disappointed, but was soon consoled by a chocolate peppermint. "Give my love when you write," called out another voice a bearded poilu, just like the pictures you see, and once a taxi cabman in Paris, "to everybody in your family!" "And mine, too!" "And mine, with good luck and good health thrown in! " came a chorus. Such a feast as they had! But now they are all tucked in for the night and I am sitting by my little deep-set window with a candle for light, to send you the assurance that though I do not write often, I am splendidly well, and never enjoyed sounder sleep and re6t in my life, for all my daily twelve hours' work. And now about Dr. Will. 1 don't know when I first began to realize the magnificence of the work he is doing. A celebrated French surgeon joined our staff a month ago, and he nnd Dr. Will have worked out a theory of irrigating wounds which does away with amputations except In the most extreme cases. "Ma foi! But I resemble exactly a pincushion!" laughed a big fellow who has been three times desperately wounded since he entered the war and Is already planning to get back into the trenches. He does look like a nincushlon. with six rubber drains
sticking out through the bandages of
I deserve the crotss, he should be covered from waist to chin with the "medaille mllitalre" for his marvels of skill and heroism. I have known him to stay continuously in the operating pavilion for two days and a night, and come back again after four hours' sleep for another siege of equal length. He says they all do it, but I know better. I often smile at the naivete of bestowing a decoration upon a man who does one brave deed under the emotional Impulse of battle, while these heroes of the medical corps perform miracles of risk and endurance day in and day out. Greet all the dear home folks with messages of warmest love for me. I am so proud of you who are keeping the home fires burning! MOTHER SALLY. . "Well, dear," commented Aunt Libby Orme as Florence laid down Sally's letter, "I'd be pretty glad if Sally saw the light and married Dr. Will! It sounds to me from that letter as though it wouldn't be- so awfully Impossible." Florence said nothing for a moment To her gay youne spirit Dr. Roll seemed old and unthrilling. "I'd rather she picked that ambulanre driver-with the hurt arm," she finally remarked. "He's got pep!" To be continued J
