APPROPRIATION IS VOTED FOR BUILDING DAM
$55,000 Measure Passed by City Council for Municipal Light Plant.
City . council Monday night voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance appropriating $55,000 for the erection of a dam across Whitewater river, adadjacent to city light plant. This sum will cover all the necessary costs of
the project.'
All of the members of the council were present with the exception of
Fl Councilman Bulla who has been Brant-
ed an extended leave of absence.
Mayor Zimmerman requested that
attention of the public be called to
the ordinance which prohibits the parking of automobiles within a half
block, in all directions, from the cor
ner of Eighth and Main streets. No
cars may be parked, according to
the ordinance, north or south of
Eighth and Main street as far as the
alley on North Eighth and the alley
on South Eighth street; nor can cars park on Main street from Eighth street east to the first alley or from Eighth street west to the first alyle.
This ordinance is to be strictly enforced In the future, the mayor said,
and anyone violating it will be pros ecuted.
"There also seems to be a tendency
for automobilists to leave their cars
standing for a considerable length of
time on Main street." Mayor Zimmer
man said, "and the police are going to put a stop to this. Main street is not the place for motorists to stop and visit, and some of them are go
ing to get Into trouble unless they stop It." . Gas Question Up. y The mayor told the council of an Investigation of natural gas he made
at Columbus, O. He said that the sup
ply of natural gas would be exsausted within a few months, and urged the council to take some steps toward getting the artificial gas plant here in readiness sa that the city may be assured of continued supply of gas. At the request of the mayor, the council voted that all city officials would march In the Fourth of July parade Thurtday. Two or three of the members of the council are war fathers and would rather march with that section, but most of the officials will march in a body. At the request of the board of police commissioners an ordinance providing an increase of $3,400 in the budget of police expenses waB referred to the ordinarce committee for investigation. A report by Chief of Police Gorman on his attendance at a national meeting of police chief's held at Kansas City, was read before the council and approved. Urges Street Oiling. Councilman Ford urged that . the roads in Glen Miller park be watered or oiled to settle the dust. ' The mayor reported that oil for this purpose had been ordered, but not yet received. Free paper drinking cups in the park are to be moved out of the reach of children who have a tendency, according to Councilman Ford, to use them as playthings. The ordinance governing the lighting of alley lights will be strictly enforced hereafter, the council decided. Business men will be required to furnish the bulbs and the city furnishes the current. Lately these lights have not been lit Councilman Ford said, urging that the council enforce the ordinance. It was decided to give the business houses until Friday to provide the bulbs and if they are not secured so the lights can be turned on Friday night, there will be some arrests and fines will be levied, the mayor declared. An ordinance requiring motorists to park their cars only on one side of the street was suggested by the mayor and referred to the ordinance committee. This will require that cars be parked only on the west side of streets running north and south, and on the south side of streets running east and west. A report of the financial condition of the city lighting plant was read and approved.

The juice of two fresh lemons strained Into a bottle containing three ounces of orchard white makes a whole quarter pint of the most remarkable lemon skin beautifler at about the cost one must pay for a small jar of the ordinary cold creams. Care should be taken to strain the lemon juice through a fine cloth so no lemon pulp gets in. then this lotion will kep fresh for months. Every woman knows that lemon juice is used to bleach and remove such blemishes as freckles, sallowness and tan and is the ideal skin softener, smoothener and beautifier. Just try it! Make up a quarter pint of this sweetly fragrant lemon lotion and massage it daily into the face, neck, arms and hands. It should naturally help to whiten, soften, freshen, and bring out the hidden roses and beauty of any skin. It is wonderful for rough, red hands. Your druggist will sell three ounces of orchard white at little cost, and any grocer will supply the lemons. Adv.

Shipments of meat have been going to the allies for some time at tha rate of 16,000 pounds a minute. As the shipments are kept up during a ten hour day they amount to 9,000,000 pounds daily. The meat goes to soldiers of the United States and the allies and to the civilian population of all the countries at war with Germany.

These statements were made by a prominent representative of the United States Food Administration. No industry in the country has played a more important part in helping to win the war than the American livestock and meat-packing industry. Swift & Company alone has been forwarding over 500 car loads of meat and meat products per week for overseas shipment.
