U. S. GIVES OUT PREFERRED LIST OF COAL USERS Government, Domestic Consumers and War Plants Will Come First.

WASHINGTON, D. C, June 14. Fuel Administrator Garfield promulgated today the plan for ooal distribution to preferred consumers. Under this system coal will be supplied to meet the full requirements of governmental agencies, womostlo consumers and industries essential to the conduct of the war, but less essential industries will be compelled to curtail consumption to the extent of the prospective shortage. The preference classification of consumers follows: (a) Railroads. (b) Army and navy, together with other departments of the federal government. (c) State and county departments and institutions. (d) Public utilities. ' (e) Retail dealers. (f) Manufacturing plants on war Industries board's preference list. (g) Manufacturing plants not on war Industries Board's preference list. Gives State Agents Power. "This plan is designed to define the responsibility and authority vested In the state fuel administrators for the distribution of the coal allotted to their respective states, subject to general instructions issued from time to time from Washington," Dr. Garfield said. "The war industries board will decide what consumers shall have preference in securing coal; but the United States fuel administration has been asked to assist in the compilation of complete preference lists by obtaining reports and recommendations on individual Arms from the state and local fuel administrators. "The crux of the new distribution plan lies in the compilation of these preference lists. The first six classes will be given preference in coal shipments, in co-operation with the plants of the war Industries board. The dis trlbutlon of coal to consumers in the first two classes will be handled from Washington. Washington will also supervise shipments to a few vitally important plants.

KAISER TO HANG 'DANGER ZONE' ON U. S. EAST COAST

LONDON, June 14. The German admiralty Intends to declare the eastern coast of the United States, from Mexico to Canadian waters, a danger zone and will warn neutral shipping, says a dispatch to the Exchane Telegraph from Amsterdam, quoting reports received from Berlin. A British boarding vessel was sunk by a Teuton submarine June 5, according to an official statement issued tonight by the admiralty. Seven British sailors are missing.

Hart, "Best Student" Is Awarded Medal

Herbert Hart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hart of Kitchel who graduated from Purdue university this week, received a bronze metal for the best "all around" student in the graduating class. Hart took an active part in school activities of all kinds and participated in many athletic meets. He was a member of the agricul

tural class and Is now employed as

county agent in Gibson county. He was elected president of the 1918 class for the next three years. There are 235 students in this class. Hart attended Richmond high school.

Farmers Not Having Silos Are Reported

MILTON, Ind., June 14. Members

of the committee of the Washington Township Registered Men's club ap

pointed recently to assist the state council of defense in the campaign to

erect silos, reported the names of 35 farmers in this township who ought to have silos on their farms. These names were sent to J. C. Kline, the

county agent, by Irvin J. Harnieir,

secretary and treasurer of the club, and each farmer will be asked to put up a silo this year.

ISAAC DRULEY TO BE BURIED SATURDAY AFTERNOON

LIBERTY, June 14. The funeral of Isaac Druley will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Elkhorn cemetery. Prior to this, short services will be held at the home. The Masonic lodge will have charge of the services at the cemetery.
