attended the commencement dance Riven last evening In the I. O. O. F. hall ,by Mr, and Mrs. Bert Kolp. The I'aN was decorated with American flags. Kolp's live piece orchestra furnished music. Women of the Recreation circle have arranged the demonstration and an invitation la extended to all women of the community to attend. Harry Smith who is In the Motor Instruction school at CHntonville, Wis., has been promoted to Regimental sergeant major. Smith was recently transferred from Hattlesburg, Miss., where he has been located during the winter. Mrs. A. J. McClung and son of Radford, Va., are the guests of Mrs. McClung's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Williams of South Ninth street. Sixty girls of the Y. M. C. A. swimming class which has been under the direction of L. S. Schwan, presented him with a wrist watch yesterday. Mr. Schwan leaves this week for a lake and will later so to Ft jyayne.
Mrs. Otto M. Schnabel entertained the Thursday bridge club at her home In , the Arden apartments yesterday afternoon as a courtesy to her sister, Mrs. A. J. Laurimore ot Indianapolis. Bridge was played at two, tables, the favor for high score going . to Mrs. Guy Gotschall, and the hostess favor to Mrs. Schnabel. Luncheon was served at small tables after the game. Bouquets of garden flowers adorned the tables. Those present were Mrs. Laurimore, Mrs. Carl Lange of Indianapolis, Mrs. Ora. Brubaker, Mrs. Roy Anthony, Mrs. Elmer Dickinson. FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind., June 7. John Shoemaker died at his home here late yesterday afternoon as the result of a stroke of paralysis. He was 72 years old. v Mr. Shoemaker was born near Ashley, O., and was a veteran of the Civil War. Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. . . ..
