Gleaned at City Conned Meeting
Councilman Ford declared that he did not believe the heads of various city departments ought to be compelled to attend council meetings unless thev wished to do so. "I wouldn't be here myself," Ford said, "unless I had to be."
This was not the opinion expressed, however, by Councilman Williams. He said that he believed not only the heads of departments should attend but citizens of the city as well. "Don't force the people to pay for unnecessary improvements at this time," said Councilman Walterman. "Let them spend that money on Liberty bonds and War Savings Stamps.

Councilman White said that if pigs were dirty it was the owner's fault and not the pig's fault. White has al-tt-Qvc heen in favor of Diss in the
city limits, and it was in a rather re- j luctant m?nner that he upheld the j mayor's veto. j Councilman Ford talked a bit overtime and the mayor told him about it. He asked permission of the council and kept on going. Councilman White, speaking in favor of pigs, said that the nearest the objectors to the ordinance ever got to a pig was when they had a 90 cent pork roast on the table.

COURTESY Pmirrpsv is cheao but never cheapening
It's the flover that blooms the whole year
trirnnsrh A hflautiful flower whose perfume
lingers. Courtesy is the first move toward,
friendly acquiantance, toward a mutual unaerstanding. Hand in hand with the smile habit comes the courtesy habit. Courteous treatment of all our customers is equal to a full page ad for us. We know that, a pleasant, cheerful answer and an obliging disposition, makes for a permanent clientale. Simmons, the hardware man, says: "The recollection of n inntr nfter the Drice is forgot-
vjuaiii. -w 0 ten." So also the cheerful, obliging service lingers in the customer's memory and brings the store where he received such service to his mind when in need. "He profits most who serves best." WE believe courtesy is the first pillar in the structure of service for to the courteous all knowledge is freely given, all mistakes gladly excused, all desire to improve gratified. It is a regrettable fact but nevertheless true that too many engaged in mercantile pursuits look upon advertising as that form of pub'icity which is circulated through the medium of printers ink, entirely forgetting that the most effective advertising for any merchant is the service given his patrons. Fine store fixtures help business. Complete stocks attractively displayed will do wonders but. only when backed up by courtesy and efficient service from the man behind the counter. WE at Conkey's are firm believers that "Courtesy, a cheerful smile and a friendly nod is a language understood in all countries." WE Thank Vou Call Again.
