The Children's Bureau of the U. S. Department of Labor has asked the men and women who are working to win the war not to forget the wartime needs of all of America's children whether their fathers are fighting for their country in the trenches in France or here behind the lines. The strength of our nation in the future depends upon increased protection of our children, "The Health of the Child is the power of the Nation." This war-time work for children i3 called Children's year. Its goal is to rave the lives of 100,000 children untler five years of age during the second year of the war. This means the saving of one-third of the number of children los"t every year in the U. S. Authorities agree that at least half of these deaths could be prevented if information about the best modern methods of caring for children and facilities for following out the directions given by specialists were accessible to all children instead of to comparatively few. ' The Child Welfare committee of the Wayne County Council of Defense is making plans for all children under five years to be weighed and measured by doctors and trained nurses, free of charge.
