It Is commendable to wish to do do something for Christ, but do not become morbidly religious. If you help the people you know, or who need help, you will be doing a splendid religious service. There are many people for whom you can do little acts of service. Look among your own friends and relatives and you will no doubt find many (hat you can help. When she came in again bearing the steak and placed it before Dicky's place, where the carving knife and fork were already placed, my husband gave a low whistle. "This Is about the niftiest steak I ever saw," he said. "Madge, you sure have a bully butcher." He began to carve as Katie placed a covered dish of notatoes and a plate of hot biscuit on the table. , "Serve the salad with the course, Katie." I said In a low voice, "instead of bringing it separately. Wait a moment." as a sudden thought struck me. " I must crave your pardon," I said to my mother-in-law, "but I have forgotten to ask you whether you will have coffe or tea with your luncheon. ELIZABETH THOMRJON
Quite a predicament and cannot decide what la best for me to do. I have no one with whom I could talk the matter over, and have come to you for advice. Tor several years I have been the head of a family of three, my mother and two sisters, and they look to me as they would to a father. Until a little while ago I had made up my mind that I would never marry and devote my time and money to them, but I recetnly met a girl that I have learned to love and I feel that I cannot do without her. Of late years I have been around to several of my old chums' homes and I am beginning to feel that I would like to have a home and wife of my own. I am making quite a good salary and with a bit of economy on the part of both of ua, feel that I could quite comfortably take care of my wife and to a certain extent look after my mother, although not in the same manner I have xione. I love this girl very much, although I have never told ner so, feeling that it would not be right unless I could ask )i n ho mv wife. I think she loves me, but I am afraid I will lose her if I continue to withhold my true feelings from her. My sisters earn their own living and are able to take care of themselves. What would you adlvse me to do? A TROUBLED RKAUCk. Wvnrv man has a. rieht to be happily married and have a home of his owp. Explain the situation to the girl, and if she is the right sort she will be willing that you continue to take care of your mother. Your relatives should not exact a sacrifice of this kind from you. and I think if your mother and Bisters know your feeling for the girl, they will be unselfish enough to give up a few of their comforts in order that you can be happy. ntr - - M O RTON importance of saving. They will do nothing except what is forced on them. To which of these classes will YOU the individual who reads this belong? ARE you an American or are you a traitor? Test yourself by one thing how little wheat bread you can eat? Eat another cereal in some form porridge, corn or rice muffins, of a breakfast food with no admixture of wheat for your breakfast. Eat rice, hominy or potatoes for your luncheon or supper. For dinner in the average household there is no need of bread except as a habit which may be broken easily. Many families have served no bread for that meal for years. Under some conditions people may not be able to deny themselves all bread but even then they can eat Victory or substitute breads. Genuine poverty is the only excuse which may be offered for a lack of self-denial in this. Ask yourself the question when you "Am I an American or a traitor?" eat wheat bread: of a Wife GARRISON pardon,' and 'If it is not too much trouble.' The air fairly drips with politeness." I ignored Dicky's comment, for I did not know what to say, but his mother looked at him steadily. "Dicky, you positively have grown vulgar since I last saw you," she said acidly. Perhaps she did not mean the remarlr as a filan at me. but I felt that in her mind it was his marriage to me that changed Dicky. How I wished the meal were over! I had one consolation, however. If my mother-in-law did not approve of me she certainly liked my dinner. She ate with zest everything with which she was served, and when the things were finally removed and Katie bore in Sequel To Love For' Coll Maternal Instinct Greatly Developed ti7 Teaching Children to Love their Dolia. The little child's doll is mother to the most romantic fairy. And in the years that pass, the doll fades into the petals of a June rose, to evolve the most wondrous of all transformations. And now comes a more serious period when the joy of real motherhood should be as tranquil as best effort can provide. This Is accomplished with a wonderful remedy known as Mother's Friend. An external application so penetrating in its nature as to thoroughly lubricate the myraid network of cords, tendons, nerves and muscles just beneath the skin of the abdomen. If. relieves the tension, prevents tenderness and pain at the crisis and enables the abdomen to expand gently. The muscles contract naturally after baby arrives and the form is thus preserved. It should be applied daily, night and morning, during the period of expectancy. By regular use it enables the abdomen to expand without the usual strain when baby is born. Naturally, pain and danger at the crisis is less. You will find Mother's Friend on sale at every drug store. It is prepared only by the Bradfield Regulator Co., H205 Lamar Bldg., Atlanta, Ga. the rose pink pudding with the whipped cream sauce over it she thawed enough to express admiration of the dish. 0 "That is a very pretty dessert," she said. . "This is Katie's masterpiece," said Dicky. "But I say, Madge, I don't thing it is as attractive as when she brings It in by itself with the sauce In another dish. What's the great idea of covering it?" My cheeks flushed hotly at the remembrance of the drops of water which had fallen from the ceiling upon one side of the pudding, and of how
Katie and 1 had concealed ,the acci dent by cutting away every spot of the pudding which the water had touched and piling the cream sauce over the cut sides. Dicky glanced keenly at me. Then the teasing devil which possesses him at times made Its appearance. "Aha!" he exclaimed, "my lady blushes. There is some mystery here. He took a spoon and carefully scraped away the whipped cream, disclosing the cut sides. "Now, Dr. Watson, let us see what happened." He put his hand to his head with an exaggerated gesture, while I sat in terror lest he discover the truth, and his mother gazed, unsmilingly at him. "I have it," he exclaimed at last. "Katie said the bathroom over ua overflowed this morning, and the water came down. Some, of the water j splashed on the pudding. Pretty dev. er, my dear, but you can't deceive old Sherlock Holmes. I'm glad the water didn't ruin it, for this is one of my favorite dishes." He was serving the pudding as he rattled on, but his mother pushed bade her chair with a gesture of aversion. "Do not erve any to me, Dicky," she sharply commanded. "I could not possibly touch it. It makes me ill even to thing of eating it." I did not know at which of thev two I was more furious. I only knew that if things kept on at this rate there would soon be an explosion in the lives of Dicky and me. BETHEL, IND.
