SETS FORTH IliS PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE ANHGTION Professor, in Statement, Tells His Views on Social Traditions.
CHICAGO. I1L. April 22. Prof. W. J. Taonas. dismissed from the University of Caicago and acquitted in the Municipal court of disorderly conduct, today gave out a statement in which be sets forth his philosophy of life and action, and for the. first time gives bis explanation of the Brevoort Hotel Incident, where he registered himself aad Mrs. Granger as frusband and wife. The hotel Incident is described as follows. "As to Mrs. Granger, she is a mature and ambitious young woman. Her life is mainly centered in her child and in a self-development which would lead to the development of the child, .-In bar association with me she was, consciously or unconsciously, seeking a means which would assist her to that end. She is Incapable of any of the sentimentalities, which she did not ay but which the reporters wished her to say. "She has also literary ambitions. She baa read a number of my 'life histories' in manuscript, and she stated that when she had previously liven in Chicago she bad known a girt who bad a remarkable history. On her Own account she saw this girl and arranged, to get her history for possible literary uses. She was to bring the girl to my office, but it developed that the girl could not come so far on that day. and It was agreed to meet In the ctty. Not Guilty as Understood. "I registered at the hotel and Mrs. Granger bad such confidence in me that it did not occur to her to questionwhether tbe proceeding was discreet or not. We entered the room and were apprehended before the appearance of her friend. "I am. therefore, not guilty of this charge as It fa understood, but I am guilty of the whole general charge, in tbe senso that I hold views and am capable of practices not approved by oar social traditions." "Tbe Bohemian spends his life in trying to escape from conformity instead of building up a positive organization of bis life. In contrast with these two types the Philistine, tending to accept everything and the Bohemian, tending to reject everything, tbe creative man reconciles his desire for new experience with the desire of society for stability by proTiding" the elements for the creation of a new stability. "I am primarily Interested in problems of crime. Juvenile delinquency, racial assimilation, individual and social efficiency and happiness, etc. I have published volumes in a method of this study. "This method may be called the case method. It Involves the study ELL-ANS Absolutely Removes Indigestion. Druggists refund money if it fails. 25a iii in Service mum m in i OZ1 i r i t 1 1 it i

MANY ANIMALS Hi ROBINSON CIRCUS One of the surest signs of summer is here: Yes. sir! Richmond is going to have a real big circus; one of those hustling, bustling institutions that rolls into town when all good folks are fast asleep in bed, remaining long enough to raise a tented city, give a parade and two performances .then pack uu the canvas municipality and like the traditional Arab, fade away in the stilly darkness. The famous John Robinson Shows will pitch tents in Richmond on Mayl. This is the ninety-third annual tour of this organization and it is certainly no exaggeration to state that the Robinson Circus is the pioneer of circus entertainment. From the opening of the mighty melange of, novel and extraordinary aerial act3. equestrian feats, acrobatic stunts, animal acts, bicycle, unicycle, of the -life history of individuals, and its pursuit constitutes a dangerous occupation. It involves association with normal and moral persons, indeed, but also association- with immoral women, thieves and bums. It involves the possibility of being seen in places and wwith persons in which and with whom you are not supposed to belong. "The explorer in this field knows that he has a chance of perishing, just as the geographical explorer knows he has that chance. I have committed not one, but many indiscretions in this connection, but I have done no injury to society nor to individuals, according to my standards, except in this case where the state has invaded the domain of private life and has itself done the injury." iim' it nil

TAKE a good look at your little white sack of the makings "BULL DURHAM" tobacco. For we are going to ask you to part with good old "Bull" for a time. He has enlisted. He has gone to the front to help win the fight over there every single sack of him. The Government has asked for the entire output of our ' 'BULL DURHAM" factories, and what the Government asks we all give cheerfully. The millions of sacks of 'Bull" we have been sending abroad have not been enough. re must give ALL to our men at the front 36,000,000 sackk -2,000,000 pounds 100 car loads every month. - So, with your own hands, roll yourself a cigarette of "Bull" carefully, thoughtfully, just the best cigarette you ever rolled; and while you smoke it, THINK. There is only one thought you can think-it is this: "If the boys over there need my 'makings' they're sure welcome. Here's to them and good luck. And may every little bag carry its inspiration of hope and courage." And if you have sentiment, just save the round white tag of your last sack and hang it up in memory of good old "Bull". For you will be proud to know him when he comes back as he must come soon covered with medals of honor for service.
