ApriTnWbite one of the smallest counties in tbe state, Union county has already over-sub-ecrlbed Us quota to the Third Liberty loan. The county's quota was $180,000, and on Thursday the amount subscribed was J205.00O. The county was one of tbe first to report to the state that its quota bad been subscribed. Arthur Borrldale, 23 years old, died at Fort Oglethorpe. Ga.. following an illness of spinal meningitis- Ho was the first Union county soldier to die in service. The body was brought to the home of his mother at Liberty, and burial was held Monday. Services were conducted by Rev. CharlesWhitr man of fie Seymour Methodist church, at the Uberty Methodist church. The funeral was one of the largest held here for many years. According to an elder brother of porridale, who was with him during his illness, the soldier received the most careful treatment from the surgeons and nurses at the hospital, and the rumor that soldiers in the hospitals are neglected, he stated to be without foundation. Mrs. John Shert. widow of John Short, who was superintendent of the Liberty high schools a number of years, is dangerously ill at her home here.
