PAGE EIGHT PATRIOT SUNDAY SET FOR APRIL 7 BY STATE HEAO
Governor Enlists Churches in the Third Liberty Loan Drive. INDIANAPOLIS. Ind.. March 25. Governor James P. Goodrich has proclaimed Sunday. April 7. as Patriot Sunday, In the following proclamation: "The people of Indiana, In common with the people of other cities, are again entering upon another critical phase of our war activity. They are again about to be called upon by subscribing liberally and generously to the Third Liberty Loan, to furnish the sinews of war for our boys who are bravely facing the common enemy In order that the ideals of American liberty and development shall not vanish before the consuming fire of a merciless and conscienceless autocracy. Sacrifice Demanded. "The sacrifices already made, only forerunners of greater sacrifices to . aiis-ht ns many things.
We have learned that if the war Is to .
home have Important duties 10 perform, as wars ar waged now not between armies, but between nations. We beve learned that if the war is to be won, America must change from an extravagant to a frugal nation, and that the resources thus saved must be converted into assets which can be used against the enemy. "I know that these facts have been well learned by the people of Indiana, because our beloved Hoosler state has led the way In practically eyery phase of war activity in the number of volunteers. In her support of the Red , Cross, the Liberty Loan and the other great war movements. Indiana Proves True. "And Indiana. I feel sure, will go over the top in the third Liberty Loan campaign about to begin. But to do this it will be necessary that every Hoosler divert some time from his everyday occupation and donate It to the success of this campaign. Indiana is organized as never before for
the success or this movement ratios has been laid aside, all differences have been forgotten. The work of rrovlding the funds which will back up our boys in their great fight against rower mad autocracy is in every mind. Every great organization in the state is lending itself to the important task in hand. "In order that the people of Indiana mar realize the importance of this third Liberty Loan campaign, when our armies are facing a military cris. and In order that there may be a determined start in Indiana to this essenUal work: THEREFORE, I. James P. Goodrich, Governor of Indiana, at the beginnig of the second year of the war of the United States against the Central empires, do hereby proclaim Sunday, April 7. 1918, as Patriot Sunday, and do request and suggest that ministers in the churches of Indiana, and leaders of people everywhere, utilize this day to laurch the all-important third Liberty Loan campaign, and I do further suggest to all of the people or Indiana, that they devote as much time as possible In all the preceding and succeeding days of the campaign to make the third Liberty Loan In Indiana a tremendous success. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set mv hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State or Indiana. Done at the Capitol in Indianapolis, this twentyfifth day of March, 1918." I5v the Govenor. ( Signed )V. A. ROACH, Secretary of State.
