Why Go To Church? WHAT IS THE CHURCH? The difficulty of answering the question lies in the fact that the term has been used to designate several distinctly different things. To some it means that entire number, who from the time of Christ until now have been received into a visible organization with government, rules and doctrines which have been instituted by their predecessors or themselves. To others it means some part of this vast number determined in many ways such as by periods of time, by national boundaries, by racial characteristics, by peculiar doctrines, or by distinctive rules or forms of government. ; . To some the "church" and "the kingdom" mean the same. To others, to make them the same is the task committed to the church. The word "church" was only used twice by Christ in

the course of His ministry but the word "Kingdom of God" I many times. This is significant of the fact that Christ did not depend on the external organization but on the inner life. A church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ I united for mutual helpfulness to study His message and His life in order to follow His example and fulfill His requests. To attend Church means to assist in making this world "Safe for Democracy" and for every other good thing. Who then should despoil his own best interests by staying away?
