Wayne County Boys in Action The work of Robert Morrison in sinking a German U-boat and of Dorsey Noland as a gun pointer on a transport reminds us that Wayne county boys are giving good account of themselves in the war. These men have had opportunity of showing their mettle. We know, however, that when the hour comes, all the Wayne county lads will give a creditable account of themselves. Wayne county is rich in military history. Companies recruited here during the Civil war did their work in that struggle. They backed up manfully the calls of Oliver P. Morton and Lincoln." When the history of the present war is written, Wsyne county boys will again be accorded fulsome praise for their part. It is .a pleasure to know that in the early stages of our participation, Wayne county boys have demonstrated their ability to inflict punishment on the enemy.
Punishing Spies The poisoning of 500 cavalry horses in the Covington, Ky., stock yards again attracts attention to the spy menace. The horses were killed
by poison placed in the drinking troughs. A Germany spy or sympathizer was guilty. So far the authorities have been unable to arrest the man. A few persons are under suspicion. ; We believe the time is ripe for the United Stats to adopt stringent measures against the teutonic spy evil in this country. If there are no laws on the statute books to deal severely with the Kaiser's agents, a new law ought to be added at once. The American people are tolerant up to a certain point. Then they forget restraint and balanced judgment, taking the law into their own hands, and bringing the guilty to justice in double quick time. The necessity of eliminating the spy evil is apparent. If the laws cannot help, the American people will act on the theory that necessity knows no laws and hold a few parties of their own.
Home Garden Suggestions We hope that our readers have clipped the home garden articles which were prepared by the Department of Agriculture to guide persons in laying out and cultivating back yards and vacant lots. These articles were prepared by experts. They are safe guides and will be of inestimable benefit to the home gardeners. Last Monday the first articles of a new series, which takes up the cultivation of particular vegetables, appeared. These also were prepared by the Department of Agriculture. We suggest that home gardeners be sure and clip them for future reference and guidance. One ought not to rely entirely on memory. It is a safe course to paste article of this kind in a book, so that they will be accessible when they are needed.
DINNER 5TOR.IEJ "Nothing the matter with you at all." gruffly spoke the physician. "You are in perfect health. Why your pulse Is as steady as clockwork." "But doctor," whined the patient, "you have got your fingers on my wrist watch." A colored woman was busily engaged in emptying her savings stocking on the desk of the Liberty loan clerk. As tbe silver quarters, dollars, nickels,
dimes, etc., rolled out on the desk, the clerk said: "This must be the result of a number of hard years' savings." The old woman replied: Yessah, Ah been saving it to bury myself, but Ah got to thinkmMt ovah an' Ah jus' made up mah mind it would be a heap bettah to buy a Liberty bond to help bury dat kaisah." "I once entered a London shop," said a collector of antiques, " in search of curios. The salesman eventually directed my attention to a very dilapidated chair. "That there chair," he Informed me, 'was once the property of Louis Crosseye.'
"'Louis Cross-eye!' I exclaimed. 'Why, man, I never heard of such a person.' " 'Well, there was one sir,' said the salesman, and he pulled out a ticket marked 'Louis XI'." "You had one of our burglar alarms installed in your home some months ago," said the agent. "Is it still working?" "It is," replied the business man. "Six burglars have visited my house since it was installed, and that alarm was one of the few things they didn't take with them."

A MODERN KHAYYAM. Ah! for that loaf of bread beneath the bough. That jug of wine, that book of verse and Thou Beside me eating in the wilderness,' And wilderness were paradise enow. But bread, I cannot but it at the store, And wine, they do not make it any more; We have remaining but the book of verse. There's no war tax on the poet's lore. TKhe verse, 'tis good, but is it filling? Nay. The profiteers have hid our lunch away. A picnic Hooverized, sweet one, we will try, But 'twill ba one punk Persian holiday. Sad are the times without the potent dram, And sandwiches without the bread or ham. These wheatless, meatless, sweetless, eatless days Have crimped the genius of your O. Khyyam. Old Dr. Munyon has gone to his rereward. Let it be hoped he has taken the direction he nas so long pointed to with his index finger. The doctor was a ' familiar figure about the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, and was well liked. He spent millions in unadvertised charity. We are waiting for them to announce a "checkless" day at our restaurant. Seme wait. If the Japs and Huns ever meetGood night, somebody. Kultur vs. fanaticism. One small bet on fanaticism, please. I DON'T CARE WHAT HOOVER
"IT SURE DOES THE WORK" Changeable weather and wet feet make March a dang-erous month for coug-hs, cold, croup and whooping cough. Be prepared to set prompt relief. Don't let a cold run Into serious sickness. Mrs. "W. H. Thornton, 3523 W. 10th St.. little Kock, Ark., writes: "My little boy had a severe attack of croup and I honestly believe he would have died if it had not been for Foley's Honey and Tar. Two doses relieved him. I would not be without It at any price. For sale by A. G. Luken & Co. Adv.
SAYS, I WILL NOT KEEP A PIG IN THE PARLOR. Well, things are looking up. A private from Arkansas killed a German captain and two Hun soldiers single handed. What would a private from Missouri have accomplished? Guess W3 don't need to worry about our boys. Let the enemy worry. They have got a worry coming. When a roan marries he doubles the life of his tires and cuts his gasoline bills in two, for he will not have to take her out riding as often as formerly. But there are two other arguments in favor of marriage as well. We will furnish them on application in plain addressed envelope. Tuesdays and Fridays are "meatless days," In the beanery we patronize at noontime. On those days they serve hash.

OLD PRESCRIPTION FOR WEAK KIDNEYS Have you ever stopped to reason why it is that eo many products that are extensively advertised, all at once drop out of sight and are soon forgotten? The reason is plain the article did not fulfil the promises of the manufacturer. This applies more particularly to a medicine. A medicinal preparation that has real curative value almost sells itself, as like an endless chain system the remedy is recommended by those who have been benefited, to those who are in need of it. A prominent druggist says ' Take for example Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, a preparation I have sold for many years and never hesitate to recommend, for in almost every case it shows excellent results, as many of my customers testify. No other kidney remedy that I know of has so large a sale." According to sworn statements and verified testimony of thousands who have used the preparation, the success of Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root is due to the fact that, so many people claim, it fulfils almost every wish In overcoming kidney, liver and bladder ailments, corrects urinary troubles and neutralizes tha uric acid w-hich causes rheumatism. You may receive a sample bottle of Swamp-Root by Parcels Post. Address Dr. Kilmer & Co., Binghamton, N. Y., and enclose ten cents; also mention the Richmond Palladium. Large and medium size bottles for sale at all drug stores. Adv.
