PEACE SIGNED BY MANIA; GIVES UP MUCH
Will Disband Army and Give Up Dobrudja under Agreement.
AMSTERDAM, March 7. A preliminary peace treaty between Roumania and the central powers was signed yesterday evening, says a dispatch from Bucharest Under the terms of the agreement Roumania cedes the province of Dobrudja, as far as the Danube, to the central powers. Roumania also undertakes to further the transport of Teutonic troops through Moldavia and Dessarabia to Odessa. Terms of Agreement Following are the terms of the preliminary treaty: "1 Roumania cedes to the central allied powers Dobrudja as far as the Danube. "2 The powers of the quadruple
alliance will provide and maintain a
trade route for Roumania by way of
Constanza to the Black tea. "3 The frontier rectifications de
nianded by Austria-Hungary on tho
frontier between Austria-Hungary and
Roumania are accepted in principle by
Roumania.
4 Likewise, economic measures
corresponding to the situation are conceded in principle. Army to Demobilize "5 The Roumania government undertakes to demobilize immediately at least eight divisions of the Roumanian army. Control of the demobilization will be undertaken jointly by the upper command of Field Marshal von Mackensen's army group and of the Roumanian chief army command. As Hoon as peace is restored between Russia and Roumania the remaining parts of the Roumanian army will also be demobilized in so far as they are not required for security service on the RusBO-Roumanian frontier. "6 The Roumanian troops are to evacuate immediately the territory of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy occupied by them. Dismiss Allied Officers "7 The Roumanian government undertake to support with all its strength the transports of troops of the central powers through Moldavia and Bessarabia to Odessa. "8 Roumania undertakes immedi
ately to dismiss the 'officers of the powers who are at war with quadruple alliance still in Roumanian service. The safe conduct of these officers is assured by the quadruple alliance. This treaty enters into operation immediately."
'By HENRY TRAFFORD, Editor Poultry 8ucce. People who live in town and have to buy everything they eat at present prices, which in most cases are more than double what they used to be before the war, are certainly confronted with a proposition not pleasant to contemplate and exceedingly hard to meet, and some means of reducing the cost of living is eagerly sought for. To our mind it is nothing short of a crime' and disloyal to ones own country to allow opportunities to go unheeded which will help to conserve the commodities of life, and tend to reduce the cost of living and no man or woman possessing a fair degree of judgment and having a spirit of loyalty coursing through their veins and are solicitous about the welfare of their own family will allow such opportunities to pass by unnoticed.
Those who are fortunate enough to own or rent a place to live in which has a back yard should utilize every available inch of space in growing something to eat. It Is simply surprising how many vegetables can be raised on a space fifty feet square if the ground is properly prepared, planted and taken care of. And, too, the back yard can be turned to profit by keeping a few hens thereon. The
space available for this purpose should not be overcrowded. Overcrowding is a bad mistake, but no backyard ia too small but what at least a half dozen hens can be profitably kept thereon. A half dozen hens of some well-established variety, will lay at the least
calculation seventy-two dozen eggs a I
year, and these are equal to 144 pounds of beefsteak in nutritive value, costing $43.20, figuring the steak at thirty cents a pound, while the eggs would not cost over $9, figuring the cost of production even at the present cost of poultry feeds, and if table scraps are given the hens, which in a majority of cases with most families are sufficient to keep at least a half dozen hens well fed, the cost of producing the seventy-two dozen eggs would be reduced practo nothing. It is entirely safe to figure that table scraps and other available waste which might otherwise be
entirely lost, except it is fed to the hens, would reduce the cost of the eggs at the very lowest calculation one-third and in most cases much more than this. Suppose the cost of maintenance and feed for a half dozen hens were double the figures given above or at the rate of $2 per hen. Even at this there would be a food value of $31.30 represented in the net profit on a half dozen hens over and above all expenses. It has been said with a fair degree of judgment and most likely based upon the actual chemical analysis of the nutritive value of eggs as compared with that of beefsteak that eggs even at seventy-five cents per dozen, are cheaper than beef steak at thirty cents per pound. It is conservative however to say that eggs at sixty cents per dozen are cheaper than beefsteak. Every family who have room in their back yard to set a coop six by
eight feet in size, which is large enough to keep a half dozen hens in, should feel it not only a duty to their immediate family to do so, but a duty to their own nation now in war and which through its officials at Washington is trying to urge every man, woman and child to conserve living commodities and help to win the war. Now is the time to act, and do not forget that it costs no more to keep good standard-bred stock than it does poor, and the results will be far more pleasing in the end.

HALF SICK,HALF WELL; A Condition That Will Not Improve! Upon Itself. ! In the Spring the depressing conditions that many call Spring fever ' often runs through families and ! neighborhoods. ! This indefinite, hard-to-describe J state of poor health probably means
that you are thin-blooded and anemic. J
Exhausted thin blood gets thinner, low vitality falls lower, poor appetite becomes poorer. Then the thoroughly exhausted system can no longer resist, and on comes the prostrating illness or serious disease. Treat the half-sick, Spring-tired condition with that splendid course of medicine Hoods Sarsaparilla, to fortify the whole body; Peptiron, to ironize and make rich red blood; Hoods Pills to rouse the liver to its regular daily duties and the halfwell revives to perfect health. Each medicine is valuable in itself but it is trebly so when used in this combination.

That's pretty convincing evidence, isn't it? Pretty sound proof of our assertion that the New Edison does actually Re-Create in all its pristine splendor the voice of the living artist Thirty great stars have appeared in these tests, have sung in direct comparison with the instrument and have challenged the audience to detect any difference
.between the two renditions. Of the more than 2,000,000 listeners not one could distinguish when the singer's voice ceased and the instrument continued alone. There is but one instrument which has ever been subjected to this searching ordeal There is but one which can successfully meet it. And that is the instrument of music's Re -Creation,
