Indianapolis (Colored) Y. M. C. A. vs. Richmond, Wed. March 6th at Coliseum. New Classes starting, Richmond Business College.

I'm just an everyday soldier, Friend. I've been here just one-fourth year. But of this one thing I am certainly proud I'm a U. S. Volunteer. When I left my home in Indiana and the folds I loved so dear, A cheer went up from the gathering throng For the U. S. Volunteer But it seems to me at present That the people far and near Are giving a hand to the drafted men And forgetting the Volunteer, But the papers say they selected them From the papers we've nothing to fear For Uncle Sam will be a friend Of the U. S. Volunteer. None of us are kicking But it does seem mighty queer, That all the credit goes to the drafted men t And none to the Volunteer. But when we cross the ocean And the slaughtering hand draws near, A safe bet is that the men at the front Is a U. S. Volunteer. I oft times read the paper And they always seem to sneer And give a column to the drafted men And none to the Volunteer. When I grow old and feeble And the end is drawing near With pride I'll look back On my youth as a U. S. Volunteer. So take this tip from me friend, Don't wait till the end 1b near Don't wait till you have to be drafted Be a U. S. Volunteer. H. A. Schlenker, Battery A, Fort Moultrie.
