ROOSEVELT DEAF IN HIS LEFT EAR, QUITS HOSPITAL The Colonel Is Determined to Fill Speaking Engagements, ! However. NEW YORK, March 4. The condition of Col. Theodore Rooeevelt, who for tome time has been a patient at Roosevelt hospital, has progressed bo favorably that the former, president today left the hospital to take up quar ters In a local hotel. Here, it Is ex pected. he will remain for several days under the observation of hli physician, and if his convalescence continues as It has for the last week he will go to his home in Oyster Bay. In1 the announcement made at the hospital today concerning Col. Roos velt's condition the fear was expressed that he may be permanently deaf, hi his left eat as a result of the operation he has undergone. His physicians added that it will be necessary for Col. Roosevelt to rest as much as possible for a fortnight in order that he may recover fully. Will Speak in Maine . " Col. PARIS. March 4. The arrest of the actress, Sumey Depsy, who has played a minor role 'at Sarah . Bernhardt' s theatre, on charges of maintaining relations with the enemy, has caused a sensation, because' of the important connections of her alleged accomplices.
