QUAKERS LOSE FIRST I. G, A. L. BASKET BATTLE
Franklin Wins From Earlham to the Tune of a 20 to 1 2 Score. The Earlham basketball aggregation lost Its first I. C. A. L. game Friday night, when- It was defeated by the strong Franklin five at Franklin by the score of 20-12. After defeating the DePauw basketbailers on the Franklin floor last week, the Frankllnltes took more courage and staged a comeback on the Earlham team. However, the Earlham record Is tar from being seriously Injured as this is the first I. C. A. L. defeat registered against the Yellow and White. Earlham repeatedly worked the ball down the floor for a shot at the netting only to lose the ball to the Franklin guards. The Earlham passing machine was "there" every time but failed to rand any real first-class shots, Edwards making the only field goals during the game. The Franklin guard holding the Earlham forwards scoreless. Meeks' consistent free throwing, making eight free throws out of nine attempts, helped the Quakers from suffering a disasterous defeat at the hands of the Franklin five. j The Earlham forwards shot time and time again only to see the ball roll temptingly around the rim of the basket and fall outside in the hands of a Franklin guard. The first half
ended 10-8. In the second half the Quakers came back with pep but the same display of passing failed to connect with the basket, after several unsuccessful attempts. Campbell, guard. Ross and Blackwell each made six points for the Frankllnltes. The score.

More big league teams will train this spring in Texas and Florida than any other southern states. No less than ten clubs will get into condition for the pennant races in towns in these two states. The Chicago Cubs will do more travelling than any other
team. Their training camp is situated at Pasadena, Ca!. The following list tells just where each club will do its spring training: National League New York, Marlin. could lay the ball down within a yard of the home plate whenever he attempted the trick. Of course Hugglns was misrepresented and when be failed several times to bunt Cuban baseball authorities became suspicious, and wrote a letter to the late Harry C. Pulllam, the president of the National league, asking whether the real Hugging was in Havana. Pulllam's reply reassured some of them, but others remained sceptical until the little fellow left for home. Fritz Maisel is one player who does not frown at the idea of going to St. Louis. Maisel believed that New York was his hoodoo. Manager Hugo Bezdek of the Pirates expects Toney Boeckel to make good at third base next season.

RICHMOND COPS CONFLICT WITH FT. WAYNE FIVE
Home Boys Play Ft. Wavne Men Off Their Feet, Winning, 42-22. The Richmond high school basketball tossers though somewhat crippled, handed the strong Fort Wayne basketball team a 42-22 defeat Friday night on the Fort Wayne floor. Ft. Wayne started the scoring early in the game and had six point before the Richmond forwards found the basket. Van Allen led the scoring for the
Richmond five, making nine field goals and six free throws out of seven with Stegman, who has been switched to forward, second with five field goals. Van Allen scored enough points himse'f to defeat the Fort Wayne aggregation. Wooding led the Fort Wayne scoring machine with four field goals to his credit. The new formation of the high school basketball team played with-
j out a hitch.

Y. N. C A. QUINTET MEETS SOLDIERS AT T TONIGHT
The Y. M. C. A. basketball five meets the Tenth infantry basketball nuintet. with three new men in the lineup Saturday night at the M. C. A Earlham basketball scrub team will play the Y. M. C. A. second team in the curtain raiser. Withan addition of Hayward. and "Cy" Pitts, guards, and Wendall O'Neal at forward the "Y" lineup will be the most formidable one of the season. , "Cy" Pitts, who has been on tne Earlham toam but had to quit owing to the time required for practice and training was one of the best players Earlham had. O'Neal, star forward on the Richmond high school team of 1916, ha also cast his lot with the Richmond Y" boys and is ready to battle in
bis old form. a The game at the "Y Saturday night will show what the "Y" boys can do against a more experienced team. Sheldon, star guard, will be unable to play. With Sheldon on the team, the lineup would be composed of old high school basketball stars. The Soldiers are considered a strong team and the exhibition Saturday night on the "Y" floor will be one of real basketball. The Y. M. C. A. lineup for the game will probably be as follows: The iwo Porters. C. Porter and E. Porter and W. O'Neal, forwards; Monroe, Hay-ward and Pitts, guards, with Park'or at center. Tho curtain raiser between the,
Earlham team and tne y second will be outweighed but according to dope it stands a good show of walking away with the honors. George Sisler hit safely in twentykU consecutive games last summer.

In the second half the clockwork playing of the Richmond men commenced to show up to great advantage, the men simply playing the Fort Wayne bunch off their feet. Gardner, the fast forward, Harding, veteran guard, and Rollands were substituted for Graffis, Price and Stegman. The Richmond basketballers play Huntington Saturday night.
