BRANCH LIBRARIES FOR UNION COUNTY

LIBERTY, Ind.. Feb. 13. Branch libraries, under the new state law, will noon, be established in four places in Union county, under the jurisdiction of the Liberty library board. The places selected for the branch depots are. College Corner, Brownsville, Kltchell and one in HarmonyHown ship. The county commissioners did not allow a bill filed by Dr. Thompson, health officer of Union county, for $270 for making a health survey of the county, taking twenty-seven days work at $10 per day. The commissioners failed to allow the bill, without specifying reasons. The Cash and No-Dellevery system, was adopted by five grocery firms of Liberty at a meeting held at the library. The new arrangement will start March 4. Jesse Pigman, well known in this section, is in a serious condition at his home at Connersville, as the result of a paralytic stroke received Thursday. Mrs. Lon Beard, who suffered a paralytic stroke a few weeks ago. has improved.

The goose's antics attract much attention at the poultry and pet stock show being held here. 57 ARE PAROLED JEFFERSON VILLE, Feb. 13. The trustees of the Indiana reformatory left here after holding their resrular monthly session and will meet later in the week with Governor Jp.mes P. Goodrich to take up the question of rebuilding. The board paroled fiftyseven Inmates but of sexenty-five examined, a high proportion, but not a larger gross number than normal. Twenty paroled men were released yesterday, the first since the fire, most of these having been authorized for parole more than a month ago. About twenty more will be released Thursday and that will leave thirty or forty still to go out, apart from those just paroled, who will be held the customary month probably. WHITE RIVER HIGH ANDERSON. Feb. 13. White river was ten feet above low water mark in Anderson today, and the river was spreading into the lowlands throughout its course in Madison county. The ice was moving rapidly and men were guarding several bridges in this vicinity, but no serious gorges were reported.

Grandson of the First Head of Miami College y is Appointed Trustee OXFORD, 0 Feb. 13. Word was received here announcing the appointment, by Governor Cox, of Dr. Robert H. Bishop, health commissioner of Cleveland, to be a member of the board of trustees of Miami University. Dr. Bishop is the third person of that name to have been connected with the administration of the institution since its inception. , His great grandfather was the first president of the University, serving from 1824 to 1842. His grandfather was a member of the faculty for fortynine years, and was secretary of the board of trustees for thirty-four years. His uncle occupied a similar position for ten years, and his aunt was registrar of the institution for many years.

WASHINGTON', Feb. 13. Abraham Lincoln's birthday anniversary was observed in both houses of Congress. Senator Lewis of Illinois delivered an eulogy and in the house. Representative Johnson of Kentucky, in whose district Lincoln was born, was called to the chair to preside, while Representative Russell of Missouri read the Gettysburg address.
