Germans Do Not Even . Respect the Cemeteries of French Says Letter TERRE HAUTE. Ind.. Feb. 13. The Hun has not even left the French cemeteries untouched, according to a letter Clarence A. Burrows, of this city

a member of Pershing's expeditionary! forces, has written his parents here. I "Every little village in France has! its church and church cemetery," he;

writes. "Tho latter are certainly pretty; that is, they have been. Fritz, however, has robbed them of everything of value. He used the vaults and tombs for living quarters. I have seen the beds and the furniture which he has left in them. The churches have nil been blown up and dug up for valuables. Generally there are a great many 'Fritz' graves in these cemeteries. They are marked by simple wooden crosses which contain the name, rank, date of birth, date of dath. and sometimes birthplace: also their number. If they have received an iron cross it is painted on the cross. "Some of the old dugouts on the Somm? are rnarvelg of construction. Some are fifty feet underground. Steps lead down to them. They are lined with two-lnch boards and are fairly habitable. Many of them have running water piped to the entries. Many have electric lights. "At ooc place they had a hospital underground. I have seen many old trencb3 that have remained just the same as they were kft. Lots of the Fritz are still sticking feet first out of the ground. "The famous Somme river of which yon read is only as large as a creek.

"It's awfully cold. A couple of fel-i

lows and myself ate at ruined farmhouse. We had milk, coffee, ham, eggs and bread. We ate so much that the three women had to go out into the back yard and figure out the bill together."
