Lew Alward, 73 years old, a farmer of west of Alma, committed suicide at his home this afternoon by jumping of a stepladder in the barn after fastening a halter to the rafters! He was found Fliortly afterward with his toes barely off the ground. Ill health was given as the cause. He Is survived by the widow, three sons and a daughter. John Slorah, who has been waiting for a hearing in the Saco (Me.) Jail, has gained thirty-four pounds in the three months he has been there.
