PHILADELPHIA. Pa.. Feb. r-Adalbert K. Fischer, a wealthy German long a resident of this city, was arrested today at his place of business and subsequently ordered Interned for the period of the war. Fischer was president of a machine manufacturing corporation said to havo had important German connections, which for a time made parts of engines for United States warships. Last spring ho was acquitted of charges of conspiracy and smuggling In connection with Captain Max Thlerichens, commander of the German raider Prinz Eitel Friedrlch. Thlerichens, however, was convicted and now is serving sentence In Atlanta. Fischer is described as a dangerous enemy alien. His arrest is said to have been the result of an Investigation of his activity by secret agents. Federal Agents Mum. Government agents stationed here declined to make public the facta which brought about the decision to intern Fischer, who never took out naturalization papers. Although Fischer resigned a few months ago as president of the Schutte . Koernitig Company, which has $6,000,000 worth of government contracts, according to Federal officials, he became general manager and was a controlling factor in the business. Fischer's earnings for 11 months, ending last December, were $106,000, according to government estimates. This should have been turned over to A. Mitchell Palmer. United States

Federal agents declared that Fischer refused to become an American citizen because he said he wanted to return to Germany. This prevented him from Kisnlng contracts for government business, most of which are said to be for valves for destroyers and torpedo boats. Fischer has hrcn in this country 13 years. His father-in-law. at present said to be In Berlin, also Is believed to be connected with Fischer's business. He is suspected of owning 3,000 shares of preferred stock in the Schutte & Koertlng Company. Brenzinger New Head. There are 1,000 shares of common tock of which Fischer's wife, the Government contends. Is the owner. When Fischer resigned the presidency of the company Louis Brenzinger was made president. Daniel W. Hildreth is said to be secretary and treasurer. Fischer is said to have been a close personal friend of Captain Thlerichens and generally Is regarded in this city to have financed bis trial here. Fischer, who is said to be a son-in-!w of Ad Koerting, the "Carnegie of Germany,' whose name Is included in thf firm of Schutte & Koerting, is said bj Federal agents to have sent huge profits of the concern to Koerting (in Berlin.) Government agents in Philadelphia r.aid they would not be surprised to hf.ar of the Washington officials taking over the Schutte & Koerting plant as a result of Fischer's internment. (.'. K. Langbam, of the United States Secret Service, who assisted in the investigation of Fischer's activities at the request of the War Trade Board, said: "The company was incorporated in 1104. Fischer came over here that year to look after his father-in-law's interests in the firm. Fischer denied recently that Koerting had anything to do with the plant. He said Koerting's interests were taken over by two of Koerting's sons. "Brenzinger, the present president, formerly was with a tin can manufacturing company at Birdgeport. Conn. Ho became president with Fischer and Doelling. Doel ling also is unnaturalized. Doelling has a son who is an officer on a German U-boat.

German Farmer Threatens Men Seeking Corn Data COLUMBUS, Ind., Feb. 7. When Itay Marr, captain for Columbus Township in tha seed corn and labor survey in Bartholomew county, and County Agent C. M Job called on William C. Voglesang. 33 years old, a Gernian farmer near here, today to get seed coin pnd labor data from him, he refused to give it and. drawing a knife on The ounty agent, threatened to' cut him to pieces, according to their statement. The two men were persistent and followed the farmer to his home, the latter still carrying the opened knife in his hand. After the farmer entered hira home his wife locked the door and begged the men to go away as she feared her husband, who had gone for a guD, would put bullets through ihein. The two men carae away and the matter has been referred to the Federal authorities. The conduct of the Ouman has aroused much indignation jTBintt him in his community and in this city.
