Interesting Bits of Handicraft Made by Pugh's Unearthed by Nate. By NATE EDWARDS. ECONOMY. Ind., Jan. 26. Many interesting and valuable pieces of hand craft are found in several Perry town- . ship homes. The following bit of bis- ' tory and pieces of work were dug up today. Richard Pugh, of Ohio, and Miss Nancy Miller, of Virginia, were married 100 years ago at Cincinnati, and settled one mile west of Economy on the west bank of Martindale creek. A basketry and smithy were established. It was but a little time until Mrs. Pugh became known as a weaver of Ine willow baskets. Aunt Mary Ann Williams, 88 years old, has one of the "sewing baskets' that was made eighty year ago. It Is fine condition and is oval in shape and of the shell pattern. No Indian baskets are so perfect. Jndigo, copperas and logwood seems to have been thee favorite dyes used for staining parts of the baskets. Richard was an ' efficient artificer of steel. He made some of the best augers in Eastern Indiana. His son, Richmond, has a Inch, a 1-inch
and a 2-inch that were made eighty years ago. The pods and screw worms are so true that no machinery of today could surpass It for trueness and finish. The Economy W. C. T. Resolutions were passed relative to Mrs. Hannah Taylor severing her connections with the unit here on account of moving to another state Many car loads of Illinois corn has been bought by Perry farmers. Wednesday Frank Cain had the following men and teams hauling corn from the Economy station : Joe Morrison, Ad Chenoweth, Williamson, Harry Cain and Frank McFarland... The irst miscellaneous shower ever given in Perry township was fifteen years ago when Miss Zora Ballenger and Frank Cain were married. The Misses Cella Hiatt and Jennie Williams Introduced the shower at that timeee and there have been many since then..... The rural mail system is badly crippled. Roads that had eben made passable by removing the snow filled again and stopped traffic. . ...Lee Lamb's second son, Raymond, has enlisted in the U. S. navy. Economy wills soon have a formlnabl bunch of boys in the army and navy. ....Tuesday when the pike superintendent and a force of hands were scraping off the snow on thee Economy and Williamsburg pike, they stopped to let the teams rest and the grader froze to the snow and had to be liberated with shovels.

er in the world, ia manifesting unusual
activity with the lava lake reported to be within eighteen feet of the top of the crater. Prof. T. E. Jaggar, Jr.,
director of the volcano observatory,
predicted today that the lava would
overflow.
Kilauea volcano Is situated In the southeastern part of the island of the
Hawaii, about 180 miles from this city.
Unusual activity of the volcano was reported in February, 1917. At that time, It was reported the pit was a lake of fire of many acres in extent
casting its glow at night many miles out to sea. A few months earlier, the
pit was said to have been inactice.
The volcano, enclosed in a circular
wall 200 to 700 feet in height, is a black plain of about four square miles within which Is the pit of Halemau-mau.
WORK RESUMED IN VIENNA FACTORIES
BERLIN, Jan. 26. (via Amsterdam) A Vienna telegram under date of Wednesday to the German press says: "Work was resumed today in all factories without exceptions. Reports from the provinces state that the workers almost everywhere have returned to work.
