A New Spirit After the War
Many speculations are rife regarding the results of the great war. Lieut. Perigord believes
a new spirit of international amity and brother
hood will be one of the abiding results. It is incontrovertibly true that nations engag
ing in a common enterprise which draws on their
full man power and taxes the natural resources of their countries, will be intimate and close friends after the consummation of the enterprise.
Great Britian and France were never so close
as they have been in the last three years. Thous ands of their men have learned to know each oth
er intimately. National contempt which one side
focnterly entertained for the other has vanished
in the contemplation of the noble qualities that
have come to the foreground during the struggle. The United States is learning to respect pro l f oundly the worth of our associates in the war and our egotistical contempt for everything foreign ii changing into admiration for things which formerly we saw only darkly. Our young men in France are obtaining a pew vision of internationalism which is superseding the intense national and even sectional feeling that has been characteristic of us. You cannot transport thousands of men into a foreign country without enlarging their intellectual viewpoint. France and Belgium, which
formerly were "little foreign countries somewhere in Europe," whose interests did not concern us, have now become countries that have a direct bearing on our own national life. When our boys return the world will be much larger in their minds than it was when they left Richmond, Abington, Centerville ' or Cambridge City. The boys will learn that Frenchmen have institutions fully as good as ours, ideals fully as high as ours, traditions fully as sacred as ours. They will see that the French, Belgian and French are peoples actuated by motives that are as exalted as our own. They will bring back with them a new appreciation of international co-operation for the betterment of the race as a whole. The meaning of fraternity will have taken on a new light, which with the new vision that has come to the European countries, will help the world stride toward the new goal.

FILLS STOMACH WITH NEW ENERGY Weak, Worn Out, Gassy, Sour Stomach Revived and Made to Enjoy Food With Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets. Most of us eat three times a day and often forget that each meal should be disposed of in the stomach to make room for the next. The failure of the stomach to do this is called Indigestion or dyspepsia, with its eour risings, gas, rumblings, pain, depression and the feeling of stuffiness when breathing is difficult. The most effective remedy and the most reliable one, because you can get it at any drug store in the United States or Canada, is Stuart's Dyspepsit Tablets, at 50 cents a box. Instead of depriving yourself of food or going on a starvation diet simply keep on as you have and let these tablets straighten out your stomach, digest the food and keep you in the fight. Adv.

German Defeat in the Moral Sphere From the American Review of Reviews WHILE the German victories that prolong the war are inflicting frightful damage upon the peoples of Europe and suffering upon the world at large, they are not leading to success or stability for the German cause. They are merely convincing the world of the necessity of a eopreme effort to break down the German program of audacity and violence. Even worse than her losses of man power an attrition that must be felt more, rather than less, from this time on is her loss of standing in a world whicta seta more store by justice and right than ever before. Germany's methods in warfare, intended to provoke exemplary fear, have aroused the world's intense reprobation. Her corrupt propaganda, the horrid trails of which are being traced and exposed in every country, have had the most detrimental effect upon the German repute. No great country has ever so rapidly fallen from a place of honor to one of low esteem. Every year, every month, that prolongs the struggle brings Germany lower in the opinion of mankind. This, of course, applies to the German government and its policies ; to the military and naval leaders of Germany and their atrocious methods; and to the religious and educational leaders, with their falce doctrines and their insane tribal egotism.
THE MEN WHO CAME BACK (Copyrltflted By Eritlsh-Canadian Recruiting Mission.)
By LIEUT. S. M. SCOBIE, 1st Western Ontario Regiment. One night I was out In charge of a patrol on the Belgian front. The three of us wero crawling cautiously forward, examining our wires, when we heard some one approaching. . We fired, exchanging a few bombs, aiming as best we could in the dark, but fortunately we missed our marks. Just then there was a flare-up from the German trenches, and we recognized Canadian uniforms. I called and asked who they were. "C. M. R. Patrol," was the answer. I asked who was in charge. "Corporal Scobie." "Scobie here," I said. He advanced and we looked each other over. It was my brother I had fired at. I had not 'seen him for eleven years. At the age of IS I left home. Was railroading around Calgary and Medicine Hat part of the time. I have six brothers in the war, and I knew some Of them were in England dr France, but I did not know where. , 111 tell you the biggest day I had over there. The day after I found

my brother in No Man's Land, we went back of the lines. There were four of us. We found an 'Estaminet and near there the boys ran across some chickens. You should have seen one of them coming around the Estaminet with his coat buttoned over a hen, the white feathers falling to the ground as he opened his coat. My brother seldom laughs, but he laughed that day. We made a chicken stew and had a big feed. Givenchy June 15, 1915, was about the worst fight I was ever in. It was the day the first Canadian Batallion took back Duck's Bill. Our Batallion protected the right flank of the British Division. At three minutes to six we blew a mine, placed at the point that looked like the bill of a duck. It was just 40 " yards from our front line. They went over the top but could not advance, and there we had it alone a frontage of 150 yards. We went through three lines of the German trenches and held them for two hours. Then after heavy casualties we had to retire. But we cleared a lot of German companies off the map that night.

A LITTLE 8LICE O' LIFE My young son had heard us talking About the government taking over the railroads As a war measure, and was much interested. He disappeared from the breakfast table.

I never felt better
After a long time he came back, looking guilty, But he didn't say a word. "Where have you been?" he was asked finally. "I have been hiding my railroad," He replied. "I've only had it since Christmas, And I don't want the government to get it just yet." He wouldn't tell where he had hidden it. That night I stepped out of the bathtub and On something that skidded and began to buzz. I though it was some sort of live animal And I jumped so suddenly that I landed in The bathtub on my elbows and shoulder blades. Then I tried it again and fell over the little tin Train and skinned my nose on the towel rack. The government or somebody else, Possibly the garbage man, is going to take over Another railroad very soon.
How about the old-fashioned Invalid who always went around with too much sugar in his blood?
