Or. B. F. Roller. NEW YORK, Dec. 21. Dr. B. F. Roller, veteran of the mat game and sometimes known as the "gentleman wrestler," has made a hit in the wrestling tournament now proceeding here with a brief speech to the spectators after his defeat at the hands of young Earl Caddock in which he praised Caddock in the warmest terms. Although the veteran was defeated he made Caddock extend himself to win and Roller used every defensive trick of the game. Dr. Roller is perhaps as well versed in the science and art of wrestling as any man the pastime has known. In complimenting Caddock on his rare skill, Roller told the spectators that it was a pleasure to see a young many of Caddock's character in the wrestling game and that it would do the pastime a world of good. It was Caddock's first appearance in the east and he was here on a five days' furlough from the training camp near Des Moines, la., where he is now drilling for the army. Roller said that he believed the rise of Caddock meant a new era of cleaner sport In the wrestling game. The doctor was warmly applauded for bis speech and won as many admirers thereby as Caddock. Roller, who is an all round athlete as well as a wrestler, has won some fame in the ling.
