COAL SHORTAGE CLOSES SCHOOL AT CENTERVILLE Christmas Holidays Started Monday in Village Enter- . tainments Off. CENTERVILLE, Ind.. Dec. 20. School was closed Monday on account of a shortage In the coal supply. Many of the pupils were absent on account of sickness from vaccination and it was deemed .advisable to close for Christmas, giving a vacation of two weeks after which time it is thought the board will have coal enough to continue. The little coal on hands at the coal yards is being supplied to families. Harry Endsley and family have moved into the Jesse Eliason property on West Main street recently vacated by Verlin N'lcholson. Although there are no new cases of smallpox in or near Centervllle at present (the only new case being that of Harry Thomas near Green sfork), there will be no Christmas entertainments. This has been due to children not being able to take part and the fact that Sunday schools were closed at time such plans should have been made. Treats will be given to the children of the smaller classes on next Sunday morning at the Friends and

Methodist churches, and the Christian church will give no treat to their

children but use the money usually

spent this way for a gift for the Ar

menian sufferers. Carl Bertscb and wife attended the funeral of Mrs. Thomas Crabb at Richmond Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dunbar left for Florida Wednesday morning. They will go to Orlando at this time and later to St. Petersburg. Mr. Dunbar having changed his intentions of going to St. Petersburg nog after hearing that his old chum croquet and checker players were at present in Orlando, and he felt it his duty to go there and beat them before settling for the winter. About fifty Christmas boxes were sent to as many Center Township boys

last week by the local members and workers of the Red Cross. Each box contained candy, oranges, apples, popcorn and cookies, also a pair of knitted wristlets. These boxes are the Christmas remembrances of the folks back home. The Cemetery Association met Friday afternoon with Mrs. Frank Buhl. Election of officers for the ensuing year resulted in a re-election of old officers. The baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Shelly was burled at West Grove Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Workers to increase the attendance of the membership of the Red Cross were busy Wednesday. The final results cannot be announced as the can

vass has not been completed but so far the outlook is very satisfactory! -

The robbery and murder occurred on the sidewalk in front of the Sidney hotel on Sixth avenue and within 600 feet of the police station.
