HOME GUARDS MUSTERED INTO STATE MILITIA
Richmond' company of the Home Guards was mustered Into tie state militia Tuesday night at the Coliseum by Colonel Oerrard. chief assistant to Adjutant-General Harry Smith. Wayne county is the second county In Indiana to have two companies in the state' militia. Lake county being the first. - - S4rtv.i1nA men warn inducted Into the service here. Seventy-live report- - ed, but six were turned down. On9 wm too old and five were physically unlit. Three commissioned officers, captain, first lieutenant and second lieutenant, will be appointed by the adjutant.mneroJ. One of these officers will have added to his duties that of mustering officer. He will muster in men from time to time to fill the va cancies made by men who join tne regular anny, or wuu uiu tiuui ufn. State to Pav Them. The commissioned officers probably will be M. B. Maisoy, captain, vera Pentecost, first lieutenant, and Ed. N. Wilson, second lieutenant. The suits will be of olive drab wltn caps to match. The Coliseum will be used as a .' drill hall until steps are taken to ob- ; tain a building, which will be rented 1 for that purpose alone by the state. The state is now paying a the company's expenses.. .. Enough men have signified their intention of joining the milltlft to fill the required quota of seventy-five men. WOMEN ORGANIZE BOWLING LEAGUE The Richmond women bowling at the "Y" bowling alley have organized a rour team dowudb lessuc. The women's bowling league will , start bowling soon, says Tim Sprouse, manager of the "Y". bowling alley. The Mley is open to tne women every day. HARAMY WINNER OF EARLHAM CONTEST Earlham will be represented In the state oratorical contest in Indianapolis February 22 by John Haramy, a senior who won first place in the contest at .' Earlham chapel, Tuesday evening. Herschel Folger wae awarded sec ond place and Margaret Parker third. "The Principle of Nationality" was . the oration given by Haramy. ' - Folger's subject was "The Red Triangle." "Darkness . Before Dawn" was the subject assigned to Margaret Parker. "Industrial Arbitration in the United States" was given .by John George "Education for World Peace" was given by Paul Smith. MUSIC PATRONS TO ATTEND CONCERT Richmond patrons of musical affairs will attend the patriotic concert Thursday evening at the high school. The proceeds will go toward the support of French orphans. Has Seventeen Men in Service of Uncle Sam The First Baptist church . of Richmond has 17 men in the service of the country, four of which already have reached France. This 1b the best known record of any Baptist church In the state. . The. four men who have reached France are Dr. Stanley Trouse, James Oakley, Lee Beach and Lester Beach. The other thirteen men are Harry Backatette, George Pettibone, Daniel Thompson, Russel McMahan, Clarence McMahan, Lenard Carmen, Robert Clark, Evan Martin, Howard Brunner, Everett Ross, Marlow Hawkins, and Raymond Ford. Court Records Oral motion was made Wednesday morning in the Wayne county circuit court by thep laintiffs, William M. Catey, James Catey and Mary E. Bakeborn to substitute Samuel M.
