TJ. conference In Washlnton, will tre reports of the meetings. A new features of the meeting will be that the women will make bandages and aomfort kits for the Red Cross while tab reports are being given. It has bean found that as much attention can be given while sewing as when doing
nothing ao that hereafter the members will sew during tbe program. All mem bers are urged to attend the meeting tomorrow. . The Woman's Franchise League will meet Saturday afternoon In the Mor-rlnson-Reeves library. Becretary Albna of the Commercial club will give another of hia talks on Parliamentary Usage. Mrs. C. J. Jeasup will give Suffrage Current Events and Mlse Mary Anna Stubbs will discuss "How Men Got tbe Ballot In United States." The Athenea club will meet tomorrow afternoon with rMs. E. E. Lebo at her home. She will be assisted In entertaining by Mrs. Frank Oler. The responses to rol call will be "Favorite Authors." Miss Effle Hall will give a talk on "American Men of Letters." Three minute talks will be given by the following: Mrs. Mary JohnsonBenjamin Franklin; Mrs. R. Reba Gluys Washington Irving; Mrs. Myrtle Bond John G. Whittier; Mrs. Belle Klnsey-i James Russel Lowell; Mrs. Myrtle Cox-r-Ralph Waldo Emerson; Mrs. Nora Iredell Oliver Wendell Holmes. Mrs. Ernest Davis was hostess yesterday afternoon for the Christmas meeting of the Narcissus club. Tbe house was decorated in Christmas decorations, red carnations and ferns being used In profusion. During the

Lieutenant Langhorn Motley has gone to Mt, Clementa, Mich., to take up his duties In the aviation section of the signal corps. . Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Malbacb , who have been In Trinidad, Col., for several months, have returned to this city for residence.
MASS MEETING FOR RED CROSS
Richmond women are Invited to attend a mass meeting of the Wayne County chapter of the Red Cross Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in First Presbyterian church. , Persons who are now members of the association are asked to call at tbe new headquarters in the McGuire building and secure a Red Cross service flag. Mrs.' Albert D. Gayle has been made captain of the Sixth ward and Mrs. Oleeta Jessup captain of the Eighth ward.
WOMEN LAUDED FOR BLAST ACTS
HALIFAX, Dec. 18. Belated credit was given today to two young women for their conduct following the explosion. When the explosion came the naval hospital had only two nurses on duty, Slater Alice Boutin and her assistant. Although the roof crashed In and the building was damaged, not a patient was lost. ., In : addition to attending , ' these patients, many Injured from outside were brought In. With a fractured rib and a dislocated shoulder. Sister Boutin remained on duty until late In the evening when she became exhausted."' ' ' Miss Jean Groves, operator at the private branch telephone exchange at the dock yards,, remained at her post and sent calls for doctors, lire depart
ment and other aid until ordered out ; of the building which was badly dam-j aged. Within an hour she was at an-;
other exchange reporting for duty.
