Heart and Home Problems

Dear Mrs. Thompson: (1) We are two girls sixteen and seventeen and are sophomores in high school. We are fairly good looking and dross welL One of us plays the piano and the other the ukelele. We attend all the basketball games, school func- ! tlons, Y. W. C. A. and church, but still we have some difficulty In getting acquainted with boys. Our parents do not object to our having friends at home. How are we to get acquainted with boys? (2) There are two boys on the basket ball team who are in our assembly that we would like to know. By their actions wo think they like us. How can we get ac quainted? (3) Wo are to give a New Year party. Would it be proper to invite these boys? What could we serve and what games could we play? JUST SNIPPY. (1) You are very young to go with boys and should not give them so much thought. If you try to enjoy yourselves with girls you will be much happier than to seek pleasures which do not come to you readily. When you are older, if you do not seem too eager, some boys will like you. (2) If the boys like you well enough to want to be better acquainted they will seek you do nothing yourselves to further the matter. (3) Do not invite the boys unless they invite you to do something first. You can find a book of games at the library. I have not space to devote to them here. tarr Piano r Player Piano

The First Conception of Music Is Often the Final Conception What kind of musical instrument have you provided for your child? Is she forced to devote to the dreary monotony of practice on the piano in hopes that some day she may be able to play the simple pieces of popular favor or is she broadening her knowledge of real music by practicing the personal interpretation of good music on the player-piano ? Many a child takes up the study of music and after practicing the finger exercises for some time without result, loses interest in her work and finally gives it up entirely; few continue the anything but pleasant prao tice by which they may be able to play SOBIE of the classical pieces. Quite the reverse is the case, however, if you place a Starr Player-piano at your child's command. With but a little practice she will learn to know and appreciate all that is best in music. By means of this in strurnent she will be able to play with absolute control of tempo, touch and expression the masterpieces of Wagner, the beautiful symphonies of Beethoven, or any of the popular music in which she chances to delight. Within a very short time she will become the equal of the artist whose technique and correct interpretation represents a life-time of labor. We extend you an invitation to come in and hear this player in order that you may see how simple and effective it is. -
