DEMAND FOR CORN IS OF SCATTERED SORT

CHICAGO, Dec. 7. Announcement of an embargo on corn and oats eastbound from Chicago beginning Dec. 10 brought about general selling today in the corn market. Demand was only of a scattered sort. It was assumed that with an increasing supply of cars in the corn belt, stocks here would soon accumulate. Opening prices, which ranged l'rom the same as yesterday's finish to l-2c lower with January $1.21 1-4 to $1.21 3-8 and May, $1.19 1-4 to $1.19 5-8 were followed by material declines all around. Oats showed greater weakness even than corn. Steady liquidation by holders was in progress although mostly in small lots. Provisions swung downward with grain and hogs. Offerings were light, but demand was lacking.
