WAR TRADE BOARD PICKS FRIENDLY FOREIGN FIRMS List of Non-enemy Companies in Latin-America Is Prepared. WASHINGTON', Dec. 6. The war trade board went actively to work today on a classification of non-enemy firms in Central and South America, to Berve American merchants barred from trade with 1.600 concerns blacklisted, except under special license, by order of the board last night. The order, which calls the list officially "The enemy trading list," is the first section of a record which eventually will include the names of firms in most countries in the world Including the United States., By its provisions, which were . promulgated under the authority of the trading with the enemy act, merchants are forbidden to trade with firms specified except under special license, which, if given, will be issued apart from the regular export and import licenses. The announcement of the blacklist said that it had been issued at the instance of Americans engaged in foreign trade who sought government guidance in their observation of the law. It will be extended to other countries as rapidly as additional information is obtained. Additions and various changes will be published twice a month.

Praise of Kaiser in Gotham Text Books is to be Taken Out
NEW YORK, Dec. 6. German text books containing laudatory references to the German emperor, or the . history of the Hohenzollerns will be eliminated from the course of study in the high schools in New York City, it waa announced today by Lawrence A. Wilkine, who is in charge of teaching modern languages in the schools. A meeting of eight teachers of German, whose loyalty is unquestioned, will be held on Friday for the purpose of deleting questionable passages in the text books. Mr. Wilkins also announced that steps would be taken to prevent the possibility of, teachers of German spreading Teutonic propaganda in the high, schools. He said it was not difficult for a teacher to deviate from the textbooks and bring into the classroom the discussion of a subject that might lead a student to receive false impressions.

PURDUE ELEVEN'S CAPTAIN ENLISTS IN FLYING SECTION
LAFAYETTE. Ind., Dec. 6. WiHiam Jennings Berns, plucky captain of the Purdue varsity eleven, today enlisted in the ' aviation department of the United States army and will likely be seat to the flying school at Columbus, O. He has been a tackle, on the Purdue team for the past three years and has been a leader of his class. ' He was to have been graduated next June. His home is at Linton. Ind.
Fire Truck's Speed Limited by Court
ANDERSON. Ind., Dec 6. The state law limiting the speed of motor vehicles in cities applies to fire trucks as well as other vehicles, Circuit Judge Pence has ruled, and Anderson's fire trucks will not be allowed to exceed twelve miles an hour in making runs to a Are. The ruling was made' in court in toe case of J. P. Sears 'who sought Judgment for damage done his property when Fire Chief Alcord ran into bis porch while making a run to a fire. He was awarded $30.
One Thousand Stars in Purdue's Flag
LAFAYETTE. led.. Dec. 6. Purdue university will soon raise an immense service flag to the top of the flagpole on the university campus. The flag will contain 1.000 stars, and will be
one of the tersest in the United States. The flag is being made by the girls of Purdue, a committee having been appointed for that purpose. Professor Carolyn Shoemaker, dean . of the women's department, has charge of the work.
