STATE CHIEFS ENDORSE DRIVE TO SEU SEALS Adjutant General, Horace Ellis, and Dr. Hurty Urge Success of Campaign. INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 3. The tremendous importance of the 1917 Red Cross Seal campaign is emphasized by letters received at the headquarters of the Indiana Tuberculosis society from scores of prominent Indiana citizens. The three, following extracts show that state officials are urging the success of the Seal sale. . Adjutant General Harry B. Smith says. "The work of the anti-tuberculosis societies is certainly worthy of the highest commendation, and the s:Je of Red Cross Seals should receive the support of everyone interested in saving society from the ravages of the 'white plague.' Iheartily endorse this work and wish you the best of success in it." The following paragraph is quoted from a letter from Horace Ellis, state superintendent of public instruction: "Tba insistent efforts of the Society for the Prevention of Tuberculosis has already, in my humble judgment, conferred multitudes of lasting benefits upon our people, but its work must be continued in order that we may be as free as possible from the ravages of this scourge. I trust every person may lend a band in the sale of Red Cross Christmas Seals." Dr. J. N. Hurty, state health commissioner, who has done so much to help lower the tuberculosis death ratei in this state, says, "If the American people fail to purchase as liberally,! yes more liberally than heretofore of!

Christmas Seals, they will be neglectins a duty of huge dimensions. The ftght against tuberculosis must continue. It is an enemy of the human race more fearful than the German enemy. Its conquest is more difficult. The war against tuberculosis must go on and our tuberculosis societies mu3t make greater efforts than ever before."

Slrcct scene in Jerusalem.

The streets of Jerusalem are so narrow and hilly that no wheeled vehicla is allowed within the city gates. This quiet street may soon wituess bloody hand-to-hand fighting, as the British are determined to take the town. It is considered likely, however, that the Turko-Germaus will retire without a struggle.
